New Pattern Plane 200Watts Per Pound!

This is a new pattern plane that Aero-Model is working on. This plane is a regulation 2meter by 2meter design similar to the Acro2 flown at SEFF but with a much larger fuse, wing, and tail. This plane is right at the 11 pound limit for competition and early tests show it should do very well. This plane is equipped with:
Hacker C50 13XL geared 6.7-1
Hacker Master 77 ESC
10S4P-2100 ThunderPower LiPoly flight pack
20x13 apc-e Prop
This setup pulls around 65amps and produces over 2300watts of power! If continued test go well this plane will be competing at this years World Pattern Competition.

Hey Frank,

What is the pilot's name in that first pic? I want to talk to him about the livewire winged 3d plane he had at SEFF, but I comepletely forgot his name....David something, I think? Please shoot me an email with his email, or give him mine, if you would be so kind!

Thanks,
David

That appears to be a Rhapsody. How modified is this from the Probuild Rhapsody? Or...is it the same exact plane shown on their webite?
Looks pretty interesting...200(!) w/lb...great googly moogly.

I'm gonna have to start buying Lotto tickets. Only 1650 pounds sterling (~$2660) on the Probuild website.

It is indeed a Rhapsody. It was a basic model that was highly modified to accept the Hacker System. It was totally awesome! ! ! Sean really knows electric power systems. The plane flew real true. It required about 1 mm of down elevator trim to fly hands off on the first flight! Sean says this is also true of the glow version. I did some point rolls, slow rolls, a few variants of rolling circles, and a few knife edge loops. The knife edge loops wern't pretty as I havn't practiced them in 20 years but they showed us a lot about the power:weight! It required about half to 2/3 throttle to pull it trough the bottom. I look forward to learning more about the power system. Sean was really close on the first try but I think he can get it even better! Special thanks to Harry and Frank for the support during our first flights.....

Scott,

Can you email me some details about the little 3d plane you let me fly at SEFF? I am interested in building one, or at least something real similar. Gofli@aol.com

Thanks,
David

... here are some links to the Rhapsody from 'F3A Lorenz'
Phapsody 1
Rhapsody 2
My friend Peter Wessels is flying two Rhapsody's with gas power but it's a pleasure to see him flying these large aerobatics.

Scott,

How many flights can you get out of 1 charge on that Lipo pack?

Is the Lipo pack easily changed?

Practicing means a lot of flights and I'm just wondering how many Lipo packs would be needed for a 4-5 flight practice session.

Pattern and LiPos

Mike,

Check out this thread on RCU for answers to your questions about flying large pattern aircraft (e.g. Acro2/Rhapsody)with large LiPos. Gary Wright pretty much lays it out in there with info on expected flight times, charge times, etc.
It's pretty doggone exciting stuff if you think of the implications.

Rhapsody? Is it me, or does it also look a lot like the Carrera-E of Qique's on the SEFF article?
It is a little different, but very similar

Rick, Thanks for the link. That is some exciting reading. Can't wait until the cost of the packs start to come down and with this kind of succcess there will be a lot more competition soon to help with that.
