Thinking about getting back into it...

Need advice for a radio. One that will work for a flying wing and won't break the bank. I know how to fly airplanes, helicopters and just bought a quadcopter. Just been out of it awhile. Thanks in advance.

While 200$ isn't "breaking the bank" for some of us, there are much more affordable options, depending on what you want your radio to do.

Brady, to get good advice, you're going to need to provide more info.
- what range do you need?
- are you going to fly it FPV?
- do you need any extra channels for "gimmicks" like lights?

also, because you said you just bought a quad, but you don't have a radio yet, I'm guessing it was an RTF bundle with some sort of included cheapo radio. If this is the case, you might consider seeing what radios can bind to your quad and pick one of those. Switching from the crappy "gamepad" type transmitters to a real radio can really crank up the performance of some RTF quads.

This radio won't break the bank and should give you room to grow.

this is also an option if you can stand the color:

you can also get a turnigy 9x, which will be fine for park flying right out of the box (though cheap), and you have the option of dropping in another tx module down the road if you feel the urge to upgrade, so you don't have to buy a whole new radio. people complain about the firmware on the 9x, but its not that bad. it still has all the functions you want, the menus are just confusing. there are youtube videos explaining everything you could possibly want to do, though.

Maybe a stupid question but,

Just curious, what is needed from the transmitter for FPV?

1.) you'll need to consider the respective frequencies of both your control and video systems. you do not want them interfering with one another. there is a lot to learn on this topic; more than can be summed up in this post. go read the stickies on the FPV board to start with. FPV is complicated, you'll need to learn a lot and make some decisions. there is no "best answer", much will depend on what kind of flying you want to do.

2.) also, if you want control your camera direction mid-flight (e.g. pan to the side), you'll need another channel or two on your radio with which to do so.
