Fw 190

Hi all

Had the plans for Brian Taylors FW190, for around 3 years, with a view to making it electric. It's designed for a 60 two stroke( all that oil.......)

I intend to start it very soon, and intent to use the an outrunner of some kind, and lipo's of some count !!

Anyone built one, or heard, or can give me feed back.

Best regards

ROLL ON SUMMER !!

I began working on this very project last Spring. Work stopped on it in Fall because we moved into a temporary house with no shop. I am hoping to have a new shop by July. I was not planning on posting a building thread here untill it was completed but if you are interested I can post a few pictures of what I have done so far. There are also some pictures of it on rcscalebuilder.com.

The plan is for a Hacker B50 14XL with a 3.7/1 gearbox, 16x11 three bade Puma prop on 20 cells. With the new Lipo cells, the upgrade would be a 7S3P Thunder Power 2100 cell Pack.

Ulrich,
You look to be very skill and making carbon fiber parts. That spinner looks great. Is the motor mount your design? Did you make those linkages for the ailerons and flaps? There is no short kit for these unlike some of the Bob Hollman models? I guess you have to fabricate a lot of hardware parts yourself?

I hope both of you will document your builds here.

I have this same model. Would it be possible to order the Carbon fiber parts from you (cowl and spinner)? I want to build this model as an electric but the aluminum spinner and fiberglass cowl seem way to heavy. I have abosolutely no skills with molding parts so if I cannot get these I'll probably make the thing into a slimer .

The moulds that I made are not of production quality, they are more or less for single use. I have never done carbon-fiber or vacuum bagging before but it is quite easy, you should give it a try. The original cowl was 6.8oz the new one is 2.0oz. The original spinner with backing plate was 2.4oz, the new one is 1.2oz. All this weight reduction in the nose area will be for not if the airplane ends up being tail heavy with the batteries all the way up front. Good luck with your 190.

Very nice Ulrich. I asked Brian Taylor to make the cowl LIGHT, so i'll weight it and let u know. I could do with one of those carbon spinners !!!, very nice indeed !

I've never played with carbon fiber, only glassing, I'll have to give it a go, could u post the procedure that u used?

And thans for the building posts. I think when i start i'll post mine too.

More questions:, who's linkages for the flaps are those? who's retracts? Who's wheels?

It's hard to get hold of those kind of items in the Uk, i need to move across the pond, u even have great flying site's over there.

Cheer Ian

The retracts are Spring Air 709 at a 74 degree angle. The struts and tailwheel are custom made by Shindin Machine. Lenny at Shindin Machine did a fantastic job at a very reasonable price. The wheels are Williams Bros 3 & 3/4" smooth contour wheels that I hotwire burned the tread pattern onto. One mod to the struts was to replace the solid steel oleo's with stainless steel tubing to save weight. Flap and aileron linkages are homemade with cf rod, pastic bushings and epoxy plate. The purpose for the linkages is to place the servos in a location that can be reached through a scale panel on the underside of the wing. The cowl and spinner are cf-epoxy and vacuum bagged. Hope this helps.

I am now flying as relief on the A340. The static pitch speed is in the low 60mph range, which is slower than I would like. I would like to find a 16x12 three blade prop, but have had no luck.

Well u will have more luck that side of the pond than this side. Everything is expensive, or just can't get it in the UK. Even your flying sites are massive compared to where i fly.

I think i'll move !!

Whats the pilot market like over there?
