1/32 Carbon F-16

I would like to share a few pics of my latest project. It is a very slow project so have some patience. I am making molds of a 1/32 plastic F-16 and will use the lightweight 2oz carbon. It should turn out light enough for the GWS EDF30 now that it is getting much more thrust. The fuse and the wing will be one piece and the tail and inlet will be seperate. I am just finishing the parting board for the fuse.

Nice indeed - I just read, that spektrum has a new Rx for carbon frames. But not for this size of planes, its 18gr

Just stick the wire for an AR6300 out of the fuse and be done, should be fine for the distance that you can really see a model this small.

I have a little carbon left over from about 10 years ago when the stuff was only about $25/yard. I couldn't believe that it is about $130/yard for the 2oz through ACP. The first one will be a blend of what I have and I might use some 2oz kevlar and then the radio will not be a problem. After I get the fuse done I will probably throw together a prototype with a foam tail just to get it in the air. I have a 1 year old boy and a lot of work on my house so you can guess where the jet is on my priority list (or maybe it's my wifes priority list?).

nice man, I've often dreamed of making a small molded jet.... The trick will be to keep it light enough. IF you can you will have a lot of room inside it for gear.

Keep us posteD!

I tacked everythingdown to 3/4" ply. Spacers are added along the way to match the contour of the side of the jet where the parting line will be. Next I will add vertical sides and then make a mold. I just got some powdered graphite that I am going to mix with the epoxy for the surface of the mold.

The parting board is ready to go. All I need now is a block of time to glass it.

Dan what do you mean by using powdered graphite with the mold? Will this be used for the mold release?

Vet

PS: I use regular Cooking oil for my mold release... Hey, don't knock it it works plus i could never find the proper stuff at my local HW store.
