Skyfall

Went to a charity premiere of the new Bond fillum last night. Lots of folks from work all done up on their fonery and a few in fancy dress too, which was a laugh.
Pretty decent action flick and not at all what I had expected. Much more retro with some nice references back to the classics. Then. I realised it was the first ever Bond fillum that I had seen in the cinema.
Also had not seen Daniel Craig in the role before. He's no Sean Connery but he gave a good performance in character with the original intent and streets ahead of some others.
Worth a watch.

Great cast; I'll put it on my to-see list. Craig makes a good Bond, tho we all know that there really is no other Bond besides Connery...

Interesting Trivia:
Quote:
After receiving a personal invitation from Queen Elizabeth II , Daniel Craig appeared as James Bond in promotion of this film at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London... The Daniel Craig and Queen Elizabeth II pretend entertainment segment features Craig as James Bond who meets with the Queen to escort her safely to the stadium. They are seen going to a helicopter which flies along the Thames River to the cauldron whereby stunt-doubles then 'skyfall' jumped out of the copters down to the awaiting ceremony to familiar James Bond music. The segment has been said to be the Queen's first ever acting role.

SkyFall, is it about people on an online forum freaking out about an election?

Let me guess, Nathan Lane plays Usta Bee?

Or maybe Henny Youngman III, take my female co-workers, please!

Somehow Dan Haggerty driving around in a Ford Econoline van doesn't strike me as Bond material either.

It might be the first Bond vehicle with a waterbed in the back though.

Craig is a great actor and makes a great Bond. I cannot say he's not as good or better than Connery, as each Bond actor made the character his own. To be sure, Craig is a darker and more serious Bond.

Until Quantum Solace, the only Bond film I had seen in the theater was Live and Let Die when I was a lad - the first theater movie I saw without my parents. The wife and I have a movie date in November when Skyfall appears here . . .

. . . provided the riots have been quelled

Bond films and Star Trek. Always the standbys I've taken my lady to for date nights. My first Bond in the theater was Man with the Golden Gun. The first I saw with Mrs. Sport Flyer was Octopussy.

I'm a lucky dog.

Being of the vintage to have watched the early Bond films at the theater during their original openings, Sean Connery is firmly etched as JB for me.

That said, Daniel Craig would be my 2nd choice over the others who came later.

If you haven't watched Craig before, here's a installment from a BBC production that I especially liked for the localized settings. Craig's performance in Archangel is typically good.

Daniel Craig in Archangel 1/4 (9 min 6 sec)

Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond actor hands down. All of his Bond movies have been brilliant in my opinion. Don't make it to the theater much but we always go for the new 007 movies

This is exactly my quandary - if forced to choose, I would say Connery, just because he was my first But the latest installments are slick and sophisticated, and feature an adult bond.

How do y'all rank the Bonds BTW?

For me:
1. Connery
1. Craig
2. Brosnan
3. Moore
4. Dalton
5. Lazenby

Yeah, two number ones

Oh, and someone on the boob tube mentioned Niven, but sorry, parodies don't count.

I'd agree with that list, although I would only have Connery as Number 1, with Craig as #2.

Both Connery and Craig do the `darkside' Bond very well, but, Connery does the sarcasm and humor thing a little better.

Z3, I'd rate The Bonds much as your list goes. Connery and Craig at the top, the rest a rather limp followup. I would also rate Niven as the #1 faux-Bond.

The first Bond movie I saw was Doctor No, while visiting relatives in Cleveland (Euclid) Ohio in, what, '61 or '62. Those were memorable times.

Yup - pretty much the same for me, although I'd rate Brosnan and Craig joint number 2.

Brosnan is pretty smooth, without being OTT...

Hmm, haven't seen half those people. I'm probably the only person in the world that doesn't care for Bond movies.

Apart from placing Daniel Craig as#2 (Connery made the role his own, from the word go IMO) that is pretty much the order that I would rank the Bonds in too.
