nice "little" vintage gliders

a 2.25-scale Musger MG 19a and a half-scale Wien

seen in the latest issue of AUFWIND (http://aufwind-magazin.de), which also has an article on a 2.5-scale, partly scratch-built, almost 7m span ASK-21 and part 1 of a report on a 3.5-scale, 5.14m, all-molded SB-14 by Choco Fly (www.chocofly.com).

Now if I had to choose, man it's a tough choice, I slightly favor the Wien. These are just fabulous flying models, what a great hobby!

I don't think I could fit one of these in my building room... but I might be able to fit my building room in one of these...

Holy cow, the tail feathers tower above these guys like shade trees! Think of all the WOOD they had to carry home in order to build them! Unimaginable. Toys for the guys with big trailers and big hobby budgets.

Yup, these guys are from tiny Switzerland (see www.flyhard.ch), and they would believe it, because to them almost everything in the US is supersized... : )
Have a look at that website, especially under "Bauberichte" (build reports).

Dieter, the last time I was in Switzerland I talked to Kurt Ritter about his Musger, kit came from Schneider-Modell in Austria. Kurt was less than thrilled with the kit but he is a master builder and makes short work of less than perfect kits. He completed a CNC Bayer Minimoa that was utter perfection.

The other amazing guy in the photo is Markus Frey who built the half scale Vien. He's in the Guinness book of records for his half scale Austria Elefant...a mere 15 meters at half scale.

Hunt around the flyhard.ch site and you'll find a fantastic video of Markus building and flying the Vien. Truly inspirational.

Holy moly I just got off the flyhard web page and I literally could fit in most of those rc planes. I just saw a REAL pilot get in one. So, are they ALL full scale human powered, NOT rc? Now I'm confused! Back to the site. OK now I see BOTH rc and real. ALL are beautiful to say the least....
