Here is some pics of my Cipolla 1.5cc engine with a RC Perry carb on it.

It has a clamp on muffler, but when you file the muffler a little to fit, it winds up with a small hole in the front where the front intake housing clamp area is.

Oops... forgot to mention that,
it's an alternate firing at equal intervals twin,
same as the Triumph Speed twin motorcycle.
total capacity of the Green is .61cu. (10cc.)

Earlwb,
Nice Cipolla, If I remember right the Cipolla JUNIOR was the first attempt from Cipolla making an engine for the model industrie.

FOX 59 C/L Stunt

Here is the iconic FOX 59 Stunt, the 427 Chevy of the model engine world. This particular example is the very last 59 made, the 1970 model. Duke went on to make quite a few other 60's after this, but named them Falcon, Eagle, Hawk etc. This 1970 engine is distinguished from the previous 1962 model by internal improvements, as well as (on the outside) a thicker exhaust stack divider, a machined cut out just below the glow plug, and a raised vertical strengthening rib running from the stack downwards to the mount lug. How to avoid buying a lemon !

OK Guys - here's what I'd like to get going. Hands up anyone who has purchased (say) at least a hundred used model engines on eBay. For the benefit of the unwary newbie, could we please pool our accumulated knowledge and come up with some informative guidelines. To kick things off, here are some things that I look for in a 2nd hand engine.
1) I never buy an engine that has damage to the top of the fins,at the front of the cylinder head (this being the first to get damaged in a crash).
2) I never buy an engine which has vice marks on the edges of the mounting lugs (ugh !)
3) I'm turned off by burred screws & plier marks on the prop driver.
4) I look for originality (does the patina match a 60 year old engine, does it have repro parts ? ) especially under a good coating of dried oil and dirt.
Putting my money where my mouth is, here is an engine I bought just today -
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/sabre-49-...item27bb3e7fda
Under that grime & dirt, there is a quite good looking, almost 60 year old engine which appears to be un-marked. Note there's no damage to the front of the head, and the edges of the exhaust stack are still crisp & square. No plier marks on the prop drive, and everything looks original although the prop washer is missing. I can't see the screw heads, and I'm not real pleased that someone has removed the backplate, but otherwise I feel confident that this will turn out to be a great engine. I won't get it until next week sometime, but after I clean it up I'll take some photo's and give you an honest verdict. In the meantime, what are your tips for buying ? BOB

For a engine with a Box you need to look really close to ensure the engine matches the box. I saw recently where someone had a old used Fox small case .40 in a Fox .50BBRC box and they were trying to sell it as a NIB Fox .50 engine with box.

I hate it when someone offers a supposedly new engine in a box, but they disassemble the engine to show you how the insides look. That sort of doesn't make it new anymore now. Plus all the pics are far enough away that you can't make out any details nor see if the mounting lugs have marks on them.

Also read the description carefully, some people are selling only the box with no engine inside too. But the description is deceptively worded.

Here's an interesting and rarely seen engine - a Tono (on eBay UK at the moment). I've seen a few of the larger, R/C Tono's, but not the smaller C/L types - more at http://www.old-engine-model.com/inde...-stary&lang=en
Does anyone know if that fat & bulbous front end is solid metal, or like the FROG Venom - a thin outside casing with a "floating" bearing ? BOB
