Slipper VS. Center diff
Adding this since "08charger3.5" closed both his threads and there seems to be a little confusion still.
A slipper clutch is exactly what it sounds like, it allows the driveline to slip a bit under power. It's basically a friction disc sandwiched between two metal plates under spring pressure. The more spring pressure the harder it is to slip. You'll be hard pressed to find an offroad RC vehicle that doesn't come with a slipper clutch out of the box. A slipper is used to help with traction under power, and also to give a bit of buffer so you aren't breaking driveline parts if you land under power off a jump.
A center diff is just like any other diff, other than where it's placed. All a diff does is allow the output sides (normally left/right, but in this case front/back) to spin at different speeds. Without a center diff the front and rear are locked together and the power is split 50/50. With a center diff it will send power to whichever wheels are easiest to send power to, so if the front wheels are starting to lift they'll get more power and the car/truck/whatever won't wheelie. With a locked center gear it'll wheelie right up and probably backflip if there's enough power.
The two parts are 100% mutually exclusive of each other, you *can* run neither, either one or both, but IMO you should never run without a slipper clutch. If you want a center diff or not depends on what vehicle, what conditions, etc.
