Need a source for 500ar's

Does anyone know of a source for the red jacket Sanyo 500ar's? Or are they all gone?

Thanks

Most, like 99.9999%, of them are gone. The few who have them won't give them up.

How much are you willing to spend? I've considered putting the ones I have left up on Ebay.

FYI there were plenty of red label 500AR that were junk. I saw 4000 with my own eyes.

I have 8 i'm trying to sell, but they are already spoken for.

Greg, how can i tell if i have good or bad red 500s without a date code? Can i measure impedance? Test them some other way?

Thanks for any ideas.

I want them primarily for a comparison test of the different 2/3A size cells. So unused cells would be preferred. I have always heard how "great" these cells are and want to compare them to the 600ae, N500, SR600, and 1000Nimh. If you have any new cells make me an offer. I need at least 8-10 cells.

The only source I am aware of for new 500AR cells is from Graupner via Hobby Lobby.

Thanks Greg. I just spoke to Hobby-Lobby and they said these are the high-output 500ar's and not just N500's. I thought these cells were no longer produced. Perhaps they are overseas. Can anyone confirm this?

500AR's

And those from Hobby Lobby (Graupner) are/were made for Graupner by Sanyo. I have a couple of packs, but haven't finished "their plane" yet, so I don't know yet how good they are, but HL still has some.

Don't get the Graupner ones. I bought some green 500ARs from Hoellein in Germany recently, and had them zapped and measured together with 10 spare red 500ARs that I had aquired over the years.

7 of the red cells were good, giving over 500mWhr at 15A to 0.7V. 3 of the reds were cr*p. The 4 new green German 500ARs were also equally cr*p, only delivering 100-200mWhr at 15A.

So the conclusion is that new European 500ARs are just as bad as the new US 500ARs.

Neil.

I posted this in another thread and several times since 1999.

The green 500AR were '99 era. Newer ones seem to test between 500AC and 600AE.

nice graph gkamysz. So do you know what type of cells are in the H/L graupner packs? The census so far seems to be that they are the crapy ones. Also, how much do you want for you 500ar's?

S&E Modeler July,2000 (vol 5 #4) compaires the Sanyo 500AR reds and green. At 0.8 volts cutoff and 10 amp load:
reds delivered 0.505 amp-hrs;greens delivered o.385 amp-hrs.
at 20 amps load:
reds delivered o.420 amp-hrs;greens delivered 0.285 amp-hrs.
These tests were performed by Steve Neu. He has an update on these cells in the December, 2001 issue of S&E Modeler. He recommends using the 600AE cells rather than the Green 500ARs because they cost less and perferme just as well.
Yours,
Dick Huang

Hey everyone! I'm glad I ran across this post, I'm in a sticky situation with cell selection for my sp-400 stinger. I've found a place that sells the N-500AR's pre-soldered. I need to know, are the "good" red cell's the N-500AR's, or are the red's different? What I presently think is that these Red N-500AR's aren't what they used to be, and that the new cells chemistry is far off. I'm concerned that these N-500AR's I'm interested in are not what I really, really want. If they are, well...I'm off buying!!
