DIY cheap LCD TFT monitor from old laptop screen

It is just information for those who like to made and understand "something" instead of buy "something"

If anyone is interested to made an FPV cheap monitor without Blue Screen problems.
I just started a web page when I describe my experiences with reuse old LCD TFT screens as VGA PC, HDMI, AV and analog TV.
There are pictures and technical details, I am slowly adding more photos and informations, you are invited to watch and comment

Those boards are made on TSUMV29/39/59 chips , I personally recommend TSUMV29 as cheap solution, and more expensive TSUMV59

Same components used in eYeboxFPV, http://www.eyeboxfpv.com/#!en3/c15sr
7 inch IPS screen and module, http://www.ebay.com/itm/181198763794...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Same seller has 5.6 inch 1280x800 version, bit more expensive that might be used for DIY goggles, http://www.ebay.com/itm/360791833723...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT with some foam board and ski mask.

It would be cool to get this done with those portable DVD players.
I have a couple of them at home, a friend gave them to me to see if I could reuse the LCD.

I was hopping that the LCD driver to be a separate component...but with that cheap chinese stuff the main IC does all the work. Meaning the LCD driver in built-in and I can't be separated.

You need to look at the bare LCD panel for a model number then find a controller board that supports it. Most of the driver boards can be programmed for a bunch of different LCD panels. I got a 7" and driver board, but the board blanks easily so now I'm waiting on this http://www.banggood.com/Universal-LC...-p-936100.html

Does static well and is programmed by usb so I don't need to buy a programmer to switch to a different LCD.

That is cheap. I'll open one of two of them again and check the LCD.
Is there a place where I can see the compatible FW version I can load in it?

i search a lot you need controller for exactly made to that lcd you intend to use. it could work well but dont payout itself and hastle alot....

the reason is lcd using digital video and our fpv setup uses analog composite input and output. so if we want to use LCD we need analog to digital converted for that lcd... wholeproducers made them cheap but if we want to buy just one price goes up thats why buying lcd cost less then building yours..

i just bought cheap 7" with composite input...

The problem with the cheap ones is that they either blue screen or the resolution is crap.

Besides, even though the first one I made (where I used a different board) blanks easily, it also has hdmi and vga so I use it for: second screen on my dslr, second mini monitor for pc, and as a screen for my android hdmi stick at work. And at $48 for the 800x480 screen and controller it was well worth it.

Look at my web side, there are firmware for download.
As from my experiences, this controller works really nice, picture quality is very good.

Your website is great, that's one of my main sites for this (along with google translate of some russian car lcd forum). Where did you get the different firmware files for this board? I have seen another board that looks just like the one from bangood but with a different name, do you know if the firmware files are compatible?

Also can you add pictures of the on screen menus to your web site, it would be great to see the options that can be changed.

I just have a question, would that banggood board work with a 42" lcd panel? I have a tv that doesn't work: LCD panel itself works, but there's something wrong with the controller.

If your screen is any of LVDS type signal compatible than yes.
If possible look at model of your screen and type it here, if you made a picture of signal interface will be even better.

I have been following your thread on the other forum using google translate and saw that. I was going to purchase that screen since amazon has it for only $49 brand new but then I read it is only 200cd/m^2, I think I am going to need something brighter.

I have been playing with my controller on an old 15" hp laptop screen that has some lines in the screen, this cheap little guy is great lol. I just need to find a good screen, hopefully IPS.
