Wow! Beautiful boat, and I love your home made sails !!! I tried making some for my N12M, but they were from nylon and too thin and not cut quite right (I made paper patterns based on the plans). My current set is a nice stiff dacron from Carr.

Enjoy your boat, I sure love mine and sail it whenever I get the chance!

I thought it would be a daunting task to do , Its just one of those things, just jump in and have fun with it
And it was fun for my kids to help me to do the research, and to see and sail something they helped built!

I have question for all the N12 owners out there-- what does your keel weight look like? Mine has about a 45 degree angle on the aft edge and pretty flat on top.

Exactly. I am curious aabout how differently they are balanced. Mine is more parallel from top to bottom. It looks like yours transfers more weight forward.

I think when the kit was sold the owner had to cast his own ballast plug. so there would be changes do to supports within the ballast cavity?. My boat was bought second hand and needed some upgrades (that was back in the late 80’s) or the owner wanted weight shift forward for fine-tuning the boat
My lead weighs in at 26lbs
I cleaned off the data tag and I found it was sold thru “the hobby shop”440east 37th in Costa Mesa CA from what I found so far it is long closed

Here's a thread on how I cast the ballast for my N12M. I later re-made it using the same method but without the steel shot.

With regard to balance, the ballast I have floats the boat very slightly bow up, so when under power, the boat is traveling level.

Look that has the mass of weight is moved forward.
I am going to take off the solid handle and install something different(a chain hoist) it’s a tight fit in the hull .
This spring I will put it in the water and check for level deck to see if it is bow high

I have had the boat out a few times this year. Today I was at the church picnic, nice calm 5 to10knot winds. I launched the boat ,,,turned to breach the wind then twang ,snap ,splash the mast went for a swim I lost both of the guide wires on the port side (that sucked) I just want to say thanx to the lady and her dog for towing the boat back to shore
