DSable airfoils

Just finishing up my second supra build and am now wanting to design a ds ship for the annual trip to Cape Blanco.

Looking for suggestions for a good, baggable airfoil for a 1.75 to 2 meter ship with available DAT files.

Suggestions?

For what speeds? If you're looking for 300mph and lower, then any of the reliable slope airfoils will work well. DS-19 has always been a good one for that and Joe Wurts has made it available. I've bagged a couple wings in that size range with DS-19 and had good success with them.

Had to change the extension to .txt to upload here, just download and rename back to .dat.

I made a 2M bagged plug with an RK-40 because my D60 performed so well. The result was really good

Where does one learn about airfoil design?

For instance, what you want to see for Cl and Cd. What alpha (or range of alphas) is the wing generally flying at when in a circuit? How does all of that fit the AOA you want to set the wing to on the fuse? And so many other questions.

After digging around a bit, the HQ/DS-1/10, RK40 have all been over 400, or so it seems.

Forgive me, that's the ds2030 not rk40 i believe, which appears to be a mod of the sd2030. But it seems all the airfoils they said couldn't get real fast years ago, have.

How about a nice HN-1038. I've built a few models with this airfoil and it works great (Inverted Too). Not gonna win any speed contests against an airfoil geared toward 400+mph but How many people have access to a hill like that anyway. Plus most home builders probably want an allarounder. Original Scratcho used this airfoil and it seems to be very successful

Design and construction techniques are pretty important too.

Aaron - Just use a speedy airfoil and build it stiff!

The 1038 is a good fun DS acro section. The Crack waxa uses this foil to 280 so far.

Synergy uses a Sean Moloney section

Thanks Lee. I guess I should have been a little more specific in my original post. I am a homebuilder and I do want an airfoil that will be fast on the front as well as the back. Not looking to break (or come close to) any records.

Looks like I will try the DS 19 and the HN 1038 on my own four panel planform. Gotta finish my second Supra though (this one with GT's SynerJ foils) and then I will get bangin on this in hopes of taking it to Blanco.

Don't forget RG 14 and 15. They are all time favourites and would fit what you want pretty well. I think the 14 is the faster of the two
