No worries, not all of them were from crashes! The "Past" Stryker setups were from upgrading and 1 bent motor shaft. I only have supplies for 3 aircraft, and I just got a helicopter kit for #3. So for now, the "Fleet" is at Max Capacity.

Ok, New Page and I want this at the top...

Current Setups;

Stryker:
ARC 28-47-2170kv
Turnigy Plush 80 ESC
Zippy Flightmax 4s 2650mah 30C
Spektrum AR500 rx
Graupner Speed 6.5 x 6.5 prop
HS 85 Metal Gear Servos

Freewing F-15:
Dons RC Wicked 4800kv Outrunner
Turnigy "Plush" 40 amp ESC
Zippy 11.1v 2200 mah 20c
Spektrum AR500
64mm EDO 5 blade EDF
Stock Servos (No Name)

HK-450 Metal Version (Align Trex Clone)
Turnigy 2836 3700kv Outrunner
Pentium 40 amp ESC
MG-14 Servos (Hobby-City)
Assan Gyro
Zippy 11.1v 2200 mah 20c
AR6200 rx

E-Flite Blade MS-R Micro Heli
BNF Edition

Upgraded the HK-450 to an Align Main Drive Gear and Hobbycity Carbon Fiber Blades. The stock Main Gear was warped in the 2 kits I ordered (1 for Spare Parts) and caused a wobble, the Stock Main Rotor Blades were slightly warped as well. Now it is rock solid!

If you ever get a chance, purchase a j-power f-4. They are great aircraft. look great on a low pass, even on stock gear, fast, and the roll rate is unbelieveable. I flew mine at the local airshow and there were a lot of good looks. After 4 months of flying, i can land the plane in a 5' wide strip.

Is that the one on sale at Nitroplanes.com?

Made some improvements to the Stryker: Added Locknuts to the control rods, Cut a Full Size Heat-Sink to size, applied Thermal Paste, and locked down with steal wire, Shaved down the Air Brakes up front to reduce drag. I also ordered another Medusa 28-40-1700kv Motor, as they are cheap right now on closeout, and that motor screamed with an APC 7x7 Sport on it.

I will be posting more pics/videos, especially of the Heli later this week. I learned how to hover, but a part stripped out and I need a replacement.

no...the nitroplanes are a 70mm version i've never used. Apparently, hobbylobby stopped stocking it too. kinda ticks me off. they sell the parts individually now, so if you want to go that route and buy the 64mm edf, that's about the only route for now. I'l be calling HL on this tomorrow.

HK-450 and Stryker videos

HK 450 MT Hovering.wmv (3 min 51 sec)

I have been learning/practicing hovering in my back yard, which is not big enough for much else. Pretty boring video really but hey its my blog!

More Stryker/450 Improvements

Picked up the Brand New Custom Stryker Motor Mount from www.customrcparts.com. It is far superior to the stock mount, and I hooked up a new heat sink to it.

Also got the HGD digital 201 Carbon Gear BB Alloy - 9.1g / .07s / .9kg Servo for the Tail of my HK-450MT. The HS-55 is doing the job, but now that I am flying in circles and picking up speed I wanted a better/faster/stronger servo holding the tail.

Turnigy 2836 2350kv Outrunner

I have an additional mounting bracket from Gary at custumrcparts.com that I bought to try an outrunner with. Originally I thought that I would have to cut down the mount some to allow the outrunner to fit. I turned out that all I had to do was remove my 3.5mm bullet connectors and pass the motor wires through the cooling holes on the mount.

I have not yet flown this setup, but I do not think there will be any problems. Considering the difficulty of mounting this same outrunner to the Stock Stryker mount which made the mount much weaker, this was a piece of cake.

HK-450MT Updates

I had a "Crash", which was really just a hard Plop of a landing and had to do some rebuilding of the heli to get her flying again. A lot of the parts from my 2nd MT Kit came in to play here to repair the head, replace tail boom, and I got some custom parts to replace the Tail boom braces.

The heli is more stable than ever now, though it is slowly turning in to a TRex instead of a Clone .

The only surprise was that the Align Swash Plate was slightly larger than the stock swash plates. I had to make new servo arms and move the ball links "In" one hole, and now everything lines up just right (according to my eyeball).

I am hoping to get some video of it buzzing around my local park when the weather improves next week. Will post ASAP.

Hat Cam!!!

Well, I picked up the new Sony "Bloggie" Flip-cam because of its unique Rotating Lens feature. I have a nice Sony CX-100 HD Camcorder, but usually dont have anyone to film me flying, so the "Bloggie" was perfect for strapping to a hat and filming myself, in HD! The unit costs a pricey $169.99, but it only weights 4.5 ounces, and I can use it on a hat and am going to try strapping it to the 450 and Stryker in the future for some on-board HD video.

Here are some pictures of the Hat-Cam and a test video using my HK-450MT.

Stryker Flight

I took the fleet out to my new spot in Elk Grove, CA today. The wind was a little too much for the F-15 and the HK-450, I got some quick flights on them to show my dad the 450 and get the dust off the F-15. He could not fly his Parkzone Corsair, it gets silly in much less wind than we had today.

The winds today (according to weather.com) are "Wind: From W at 11mph gusting to 18mph", and aside from an iffy take-off throw due to a gusting crosswind, the Stryker once again showed that it cares not about a little bit of wind! The ARC 28-47-2170kv motor absolutley loved the APC 7x5 Sport prop, and I timed the throttle heavy flight to LVC at ~6 minutes for future reference. I typically use more throttle management than this and do several gliding passes so I will leave the timer at 6 and bring it in for landing to save the lipos.

Here is the Hat-Cam video of the proceedings:

F-15 Down

I tried to do a loop from low altitude with the F-15, and planted the nose squarely into the ground. This one will not be repaired, I stripped the gear (which was all intact ) and tossed the plane.

A moment of silence, please..........

Most places now sell this plane as a 4s setup, but I bought it a long time ago and used a 3s setup that was a little underpowered using donsrc.com "Wicked" 4800kv EDF Motor (great motor, plane too large).

The F-15 will be replaced by a....Parkzone T-28 Trojan. I need a good Park Flyer, since the 4s Stryker needs a little more breathing room than most parks offer

Parkzone T-28 Trojan

Got the T-28 Today. This plane feels like it should be a solid parkflyer, and I also wanted this to fly with my Dad's Parkzone Corsair. I know his corsair does not handle wind too well, and the T-28 does not feel like it will do that well in the wind either (Thats what the Stryker is for).

I bought a 2nd canopy to Mod in a way that I can attach the Sony Camera too it. Looks like it is going to work very well, will post videos of the Maiden ASAP.

T-28 FPV Canopy Improvements

I went ahead and Decided to further modify my Spare Canopy prior to seeing what the FPV video would look like. I think it was a good choice. I took a Light Gauge wire, and covered it in heat shrink, then bent it into the shape of the stock canopy frame. Now optical quality is perfect! I plan to place a piece of blenderm tape over the camera's mic, so that the audio will not be of just wind blowing.

Videos coming when the weather improves

Parkzone T-28 Trojan Maiden Flight (7 min 32 sec)

The video will have the HD option when youtube is finished processing it.

The maiden flight went well, a little windy which didnt make flying difficult, just the landing. I am dodging light poles and curbs on my personal little airfield, and ended up with a pretty good touch and go as I saw I was running out of runway

This flight has the APC 10x7 E prop and 3s Rhino 2250mah 30C lipo. Flight was ~Slow, climbs were meh, but I got this plane to be a tame "park-flyer" anyway. However, I do see a higher kv motor in my near future...
