That's why I have two. I can do basic airbrushing and am learning shadowing, but the two Garys (Pierson and Holland) are true artists.

I might well have to borrow that scheme. If you don't mind of course?

Hi Luis,

No I don't have any Utoob vids I'm afraid. I had a quick trawl around and found this for you, which might be useful
How to Airbrush with Frisket (10 min 26 sec)
I wouldn't recommend cutting the letters in place as she does. Cut them on a board and then place them individually. Oh and the Frisket film I use is very 'low tack' so no need to do the sticking it on your arm thing!

As I've said before, most of my lettering is cut using a CraftRobo hobby cutter. It's quite a substantial outlay mind, so unless you're going to paint a lot of foamies, just stick with the simple hand cut symbols. Just to show what can be achieved, the Disney lettering was hand cut with a sharp scapel.

Is any painters tape safe to use on painted depron, or must I make a template and pin everything?

All painters tape I've tried seems to pull a very slight amount of the Depron "skin" off, and doesn't look the same as the surrounding foam.

I just make poster board templates for simpler jobs, and have had excellent luck. Just weight them down with washers and get after it!

the two planes in the photo are of the Fancy Foam Fenix v2, (depron and EPP)

I'm working on this design and wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to separate the red from the checker wingtips. I was thinking of doing the ripped away style, but not sure I'm sold on it. Ideas?

By painters tape, do you mean the normal masking tape used for car body? If so, the glue is far too agrresive and (as aerolite has already pointed out) will definately take the paint off. It is however, good for masking on EPP and about the only thing that sticks well.

I have masked straight on top of paint using Frisket and had good results. The only reason I try to steer clear of doing this now, is it's a bit of a leap of faith and you risk ruining a bunch of hard work if it does pull the paint. Best advice, is to do a test piece and see how it comes out? Just make sure you give the colour you are masking on plenty of time to dry.

Another thing you could try is thin Mylar sheet, which, looking at your design, should be just rigid enough to weight down rather than pinning. Being clear it also makes alignment easier.

Nice scheme btw. I look forward to seeing the completed model.

Here's a quickie paint job I just did on my Fancy Foam Flip-Flop. Same technique as most of the other paint jobs here. I printed the design from a .jpeg downloaded from the web onto card stock. I cut out the template, sprayed the red, then shaded with black. I don't spend too much time painting my indoor models as they don't tend to have long lives. Took maybe 30 minutes from start to finish.

Has anyone used a vinyl cutter to cut out their masks? What kind of vinyl mask are you using if so?

I've done it with sign vinyl but the edges don't stay down on EPP very well. Oracal makes a low tack paint mask version. I have also cut the backing off vinyl and used that pinned down. For production work I've been laser cutting Plexiglas because it doesn't warp with the paint on one side and for Createx you can toss it in a water bath for easy cleanup
