How is the 3d flying with this thing? I've looked at videos but all i see is pattern flying. The eflite video has some hovering. but what about harriers and slow 3d stuff? stable? if it is even close to a 3dhs vyper then it should perform some nice 3d. Don't get me wrong though. I am not expecting 3dhs quality flight out of this thing.
What do you mean 3dhs quality? You mean 3dhs 3d capabilities right? It sure does not fly 3d like a a 3dhs. It's a pattern plane in first place lol

Just playing with you buddy

REVISED SETTINGS-more details

REVISED SETTINGS-more details
Here is my set up after working a while to get there. the airplane is a fantastic
flyer with this set up. This version supersedes prior post #2143.

1) cut out 1/4 inch of foam from the rear of the battery tray if you are
flying an e-flite 32006s. you will need the room to move the battery
towards the rear to achieve the need for "0" trim on pitch. the manual
is not as accurate about cg as it could be. battery position relation to
proper CG is critical. just a little out, 1/8 to 1/4 inch, makes a marked
difference in CG and trimming the airplane. you are only allowed 8 clicks
of trim with the as3x. with this set up specified above, i have zero trim in pitch.

2) high and low rates are as follows:

HIGH: rate LOW
Aileron 100-25 55-25
Elev 100-25 100-25
Rud 100-25 100-20

The above low rate numbers in sport or F3A mode, are perfect. the
decrease in the aileron throw makes the airplane fly responsive, but
not too hot. i left the elevator at 100-25, because i did not want to
lose elevator authority in flare on landing. rudder i left alone, but
just decreased expo by 5%. my advice is start here, and adjust as
you like for a first flight. take off/land on low rates as above, especially
for your first one. with the cg properly set, the airplane will slow down
nicely for flare and landing. cg too far forward will cause you to have
a fast landing speed, or weird handling in flare. too far aft is just as bad.

3) the airplane will fly well at 60% throttle, thus giving you 8+ min flight times
down to 3.8v per cell. fly it hotter, decrease your flight time.

4) i reversed my landing gear wire, putting the wheels out in front of the cg
point. this makes for nice landings that don't nose over on grass because of
the wheel pants.

5)as3x GAIN numbers (gear switch/sport switch positio -0-,
switch position 3D -1-):

.................................................. .....3D--F3A
rudder-grn light-......................90L 30L
elevator-blue light..................80L 20L
aileron-red light.......................80R 40R

6) go to 5:48 on this video to program your as3x -only if you need to. make sure your gear
switch is at the -zero- position, and program accordingly. if you want
to program the 3D side, go to gear switch position -one-. your airplane
came pre-programmed from HH. don't fool with this unless you have to.

HorizonHobby.com How To - Programming Your Spektrum AR635 Receiver (23 min 57 sec)

7) make sure the gear switch is at position "zero" for sport mode. check it
on the ground, position "one" is 3D mode. position "one" will give you huge
control surface deflections, sport will not. MAKE SURE THE SWITCH IS
NOT REVERSED. fly it in sport mode to prevent as3x oscillations and
PIO, or pilot induced oscillation/over control at higher speeds and
throttle settings

8) Balance your prop/spinner/backplate.

i hope this helps some. please contact me and as i am happy to help.

I really couldn't answer 3D question as I am one of the pattern flyers as I have some smaller foamies that I play with 3D on, to me this is a pattern plane so I set mine up that way... Guess you could 3D with it pretty good as it does have big control surfaces and unlimited vertical.. Honestly for me the AS3X is just an accessory I really didn't need but since it came with it I found the best formula for me to use it and that was to change it to sport mode and take the gains out completely on mode 0 and if I want to play with gyro's I have them there in mode 1..

Yeah I know. Is just that every pattern pilot I know in nj or ny they don't even mention the 3dhs vyper. But yeah. I wouldn't b doubt the vyper might be a nice 3d pattern plane. It's just think splendor is being sold as a nice pattern - sport plane

Got my Splendor today. Setting up my Tx before I start assembly. Planning to fly it stick until I figure out the likes and dislikes.

Those who setup their model according to Quique's suggestions, any issues driving the servos to 125% travel (page 10 of the manual)?

My elevator servo froze up in neutral position on the third flight of mine. I guess u had a defective ine. The aileron servo on my second splendor it gest stok on low rates and starts shaking kike crazy. Bad QC ISSUES if you ask me. I.managed to save the one with the el vat or but 2 flights after that esc died. Secondary one I replaced the stock esc with a ztw one and everything works fine. And I'm still flying with the bad aileron servo since at high rates it works fine. Great plane. Bad QC in this one

New plane: assembly and checking - first question

Have the prop off to balance. Want to check the motor mounting, but...does the nose piece come off?

It appears to be attached, glued, or snug on, at only a few places, but can't tell if it is glued or not. Not strong enough to survive much pulling and prying.

Got it. Thanks. Everything good. I turned the ESC around so I'd have a longer lead to the battery. And added a little extra glue in a few places.
