F-104 Quickbuild part 2

I moved this thread from the scratch builders forum to here as the 104 seems to fit better in the pusher prop jet forum. Here is the old thread with the original download.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=956580

Specs:
Wingspan 18 3/8 inches.
Length 43 inches
Motor Scorpion HK 2208-28
Prop 4.5 x 4.1
Battery used 1000 and 1300 X-caliber 3 cell
Material 6 mm depron

Ok, I have been talking with a gentleman about the 104 and he got the bug going in me. I'm not sure if I should thank him or not. Anyway, I have wanted to get another 104 going for a while as I beat my other one up pretty quick getting the bugs worked out.

You can see in the photos that I have made a change, actually I have made a few revisions but only one is visible. Following Marcels Drakken, I added a carbon strip to the tail which has added some strength hopefully helping to tie everything together. I have also simplified the out line making it easier to cut by hand. Once I get the revision finalized in cad I will post it for those interested.

Control surfaces and gear still need to be installed but I'm starting my work week so it will be a few days, and what the heck I just might paint this one.

Here is the download for the revision 2 of the plan. The changes are adding a carbon strip to the tail as well as simplifying the plan to make it easier to cut out.

Jim,

Glad to see you got the revised plane done. I'll take the plans and tile them up for you.

Jim,

Check your email.

And of course, I'll have to build one (again).

Ok, I updated the first post to include the tiled plans. Thanks again Pat for tiling them.

I'm heading into my weekend so I hope to have some time to get the electronics installed and get a test flight.

Ready for the test flight of number two but it will have to wait as we have weather here right now. Specs with the Scorpion HK 2208-28 and 4.5 x 4.1 prop are 22amps at 269 watts. I'll get some photos of my gear install posted later as the wife has the camera in Michigan right now.

Test flight went off with no worries. Put two batteries through this AM. Flying a white depron plane in cloudy skies can be fun sometimes. Every now and then those tiny wings would disappear. Time for some sort of color.

Flying is not bad but it is NOT for the beginner. It's very controllable but the stall is very deep. Rolls are super fast if you want them to be. I tried some inverted flight but it did not like it at all. I'll have to play some more and see what I can come up with for sustained inverted flight. Landing was a piece of cake. just hold some power, about a high idle, and bring her in chopping throttle around the flare.

Very cool Pat. That could work for a nice easy paint job.

I have a number of flights on the 104 now with no problems. Eli has a few as well. One thing I need to change is I need to mount the battery on the centerline. As it is now you can feel the weight to the battery side.

Yeah, that's always a big thing for me, which is why I prefer to have the battery in the electronics bay if at all possible.
