SMALL 2011-June 2-5, 2011-Wrightsville, Arkansas, PICTURES ADDED

Event pictures have been added to the thread and they start in post 119 on page 8 or you can click on this link and scroll down the page: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1372947&page=8

SMALL 2011 will take place June 2-5, 2011 (Thursday-Sunday) at the FARM Club Field, on the east side of Wrightsville, Arkansas.

Wrightsville is south of Little Rock. This is the 21st SMALL.

SMALL is for RC, Control Line, and Free Flight models of all types powered by electric motors, fuel engines .25 cu in or smaller (CL fuel engines may be larger), rubber, and even hand launch. Rockets were flown again last year after a long absence. The field is very large, flat, and open and can easily accommodate all of these types of flying. There will be a session or two of indoor electric flying.

Here is the SMALL 2010 thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1144911

The SMALL 2009 thread with many pictures: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=996481 . This event received magazine coverage in the October 2009 Flying Models and November 2009 Model Aviation.

A map to the field is at this link:

http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid...ed=0CAgQ8gEwAA

You can use the "Get Directions" button to get driving directions from your location.

GPS Users: Google Maps GPS Coordinates given are :+34 35' 55.71", -92 12' 39.83"
To use them with my Garmin Nuvi GPS, I had to enter them as :
N 34 35' 55.7"
W092 12' 39.8"

Street Address for the FARM Club Field gate that works with my Garmin Nuvi GPS:

6855 Hwy 386
Little Rock, AR 72206

On my Garmin GPS, when you put "Hwy 386" into your GPS for the street, you leave off the "Hwy" prefix and just put in "386". I know it says Little Rock, but my GPS says it doesn't have a "Wrightsville" when I do a search for it and "Little Rock" works. There are differences in map databases and your GPS may give a slightly different location, but I know this works for Garmin Nuvi. Google maps puts this location at 6517 Hwy 386.

Dale Womack ( daleflysrcp47@basicisp.net or 501-847-4596 after 6 PM CST ) is the event CD.

More info to come. I will put updates in this or the next three posts.

SMALL 2011 Indoor Site Update April 28, 2011

Indoor Site Update from Event CD Dale Womack:

Some updates to the indoor guys !! The new mayor of Wrightsville has informed me the cost of the gym will be 400.00 $ a nite !! and as most of you will understand, our club, with such a few members cannot aford such a fee !! I take a couple a 100.00 $ out of my pocket each year to help out on SMALL, but after the last few years of dealing with the new powers at be in Wrightsville, I have chosen to try and find another location !! I am still looking as of today !! I am in hopes of using the Gym at Wilbur D. Mills High School 1300 Dixon Rd Which is just one exit north of the Wrightsville Exit !! & a few blocks east of I-530. It is the High School where I graduated from in 1981 30 years ago this May !! I am aslo looking in to the old Gym @ UALR. U OF A Little Rock I to have felt the pain of rising gasoline prices !! My Astro Van has a 27 gallon tank !! one cosolation though, the gas in the Little Rock area, has averaged about 8 to 10 cents below the national average !! I found it for 3.54 a gallon yesterday !! If you feel that an airline ticket would be cheaper and choose to fly in !! I will gladly pick U up at the airport !!

One last tidbit for all !!

Please NO EARLY ARRIVALS !! We won't start prepping the field until noon Wensday !! and should be through around 4 pm. Also Please NO PETS ON THE FLIGHTLINE !! SMALL means just that !! and small airplanes could easily be stepped on by a large pet !! Hope to see ya at this years SMALL.

Thanks Dale

Thanks Richard for getting us going again.... !

Lets try a mass launch of this little micro flyer. They fly great. Wonder how many can get in the air and the radio's work. Have flown two together so far. Neat little glider for 39.99 with 2.4 radio and free shipping.

Park,

Those are nice and Tom showed me the one he got, but I'm trending towards medium sized airplanes that grab enough air to fly smoothly and are easy to see in the sky like my E-lula and Flea. I picked up a Hobie Hawk at a swap meet in Georgetown last weekend and Tom says I should bring that to SMALL so we could have a vintage group of sailplanes.

Tom and I need to get building on our planes for the TINY indoor meet in March and I'm sure almost all of those will be coming to SMALL. I will definitely be bringing rockets and hopefully some new ones. I need to put radio gear in Tom's great flying Mig-21 rocket.

I will try to get Mike Connally, Ernest Butler, and Gary Jones to come to SMALL along with some of my other Texas friends to share the SMALL experience.

Wooo Hoo!

Only 135 days or so until SMALL 2011!

Trying to decide the big project for this year. Thinking about finishing up my 75" wingspan RB-57F/WB-57F model with two 70mm fans. It is all framed up and full sheeted and just needs some sanding, coveing and equipment installation.

And thinking about a few other odds and ends.

The DX-220 will be there for sure, assuming it survives that long.

Thanks again

Thanks again for keeping this blog alive. I know it is a lot of work. Dale is working on getting things lined up for this year. I'm pushing for 3 days of indoor flying. Where did you get your E-lula?

Steve,

To get an E-lula, you have to make one from an Alula that you get from Dream-Flight ( http://dream-flight.com/alula.html ). I've posted how to make an E-lula along with flight video in the Alula Teaser thread here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=227

The latest change I have made is to fly with a 2S 500ma lipo instead of the original 750ma to cut down on weight. My second E-lula is flying with a Blue Wonder 1700Kv motor and the Aeronaut 6X6 prop. Unfortunately, that prop is almost impossible to find and I tried a 6X3 with this battery and motor and the results were terrible. I have a 3000Kv Blue Wonder and will try this sometime.

Aeronaut 6 x 6 prop. Try here. They say in stock. Look under propellors then Aeronaut.

Park,

It looks like they have the Aeronaut 6X6 blades without the hub. They do have a Robbe 6X6 complete spinner, yoke, and blades, but it is a for a 3.2mm shaft and the Blue Wonder motors have a 3mm shaft. It has a collet type adapter and may be able to take up the difference. That may or may not work because I've tried that before and could not get it to tighten enough.

The original Aeronaut folder spinner backplate I had worked because it was all plastic and had a 2.3mm hole sized for a Speed 400 that I drilled out to 3mm.
