Two stock batteries for longer flight time
1000 mah battery from an SR 3S battery pack

Landing skid servo gear saver mod

O ring skid mod
Tail motor bearing keeper mod


Well with only one battery to fly with it gives me time to think

The tail motor has a small bearing on the motor shaft between the motor can and the tail rotor.
It is there to help save the tail motor in a crash by preventing the tail rotor from pushing the motor shaft out the back and it looks like it will also help keep the motor shaft from getting bent in a crash.

Good idea,but it is tiny.....and it always comes flying off in a crash.In the house you may be able to find it,but forget it if your outside....that tiny bearing is gone!

Good thing is...you don't need it.The heli will fly fine without it....but you loose the protection that it provides.

I came up with an easy solution.
I call it the "tail motor bearing keeper"
It is just a thin strip of plastic bent at a 90* angle.It tucks between the motor can and the motor mount.There is a hole in the center to provide space for the tail rotor....binding would definitely cause the tail motor to over work and die.So there is ample space for the tail rotor.

I had to try it...and that ment an intentional crash so i aimed for the couch .I flew right into the back of it...plop....zing there goes the tail rotor,but the bearing keeper did its job and held the bearing on the motor shaft .

I also made some O rings for the skids.I cut some narrow slices of nitro fuel tube i had.They fit great.
And they prevent the heli from sliding around on lift off....or when you want to land.
They also help prevent the skids from doing a split on a hard landing,saving your skids a bit longer.
Again the pics are more interesting than my ramble..lol

Just an update for thse who might be wondering if the mod is holding up.
Still flying great.
I have not lost the tail motor bearing......not once and i have had a few crashes!
Without the bearing keeper i would have lost the tiny bearing long ago.

Nice, but I think I'll just keep my 120SR the way it is.

Things like this is where waiting is a good thing. I just hope the sr"120" does soo good that the msr "80" gets less expensive. (@80 mm from bolt hole to edge of blade). It seems to becoming a #'s game.

Save your servo!

Noticed today that the landing skid mount on the rear left in a hard crash will cause contact between the big servo gear and the landing gear at the frame.

Hold the heli firmly and press the skid up on the rear left side....notice how the little nub/mounting post from the landing gear sticking up through the chassis can contact the servo gear ...The skid will break the servo gear in a hard crash...not good

The easy fix is to trim the rear left skid where it mounts to the chassis/frame.

Remove the skid from the heli.
You only need to trim just a small slice.....Use a dremel or some other tool that will cut through the tiny steel rod that is inside the skid mount at the chassis/frame.
Cut it so that when the skid is installed the skid mounting post is flush with the chassis/frame...By doing that you will save you left servo from getting ruined on a hard landing/crash.

Those mini drill pieces looks nice are they for use with a dremel also you made your own skids on the mSR ?

I'm pretty sure they are made for hand use only. Some have broken with just the slightest twist. Great tool to have though, I have done tiny scale MODs on my mSR that would not have been possible without them.

That is some pretty tiny drilling you have done!
I have not seen such small drill bits before...where do you get such small drill bits?
In the past i have chucked a very thin sewing needle in my dremel with the point going into the chuck and the eye being the end used to drill with.
It worked well on plastic....but some tiny drill bits would work better.

You probably mean the don't crash MOD. Because if you fly outside much, and you crash down at all, sooner than later your gonna lose this $3.50 part. Just trying to save myself and maybe some of these other guys the dough. MONEY MAKES THE ROTOR GO AROUND.
