Gromit's little red plane

I am a fan of Wallace of Gromit. I also like the machines in their films. One particular machine I like is Gromit's little red plane in the film A Close Shave. I always wonder if it can really flys.

So I decided to build a RC model of the little red plane. I will show some of my progress in the blog. Hope it will be successful.

I had a plastic model of the plane and base on that I made up the blue print of the plane.

I use a mixture of ply, 2mm Depron and BlueCor for this project. Here is the building in progress.

I could kick myself for not thinking of this myself! I am a huge fan of the Wallace & Grommet movies! You must have the sheep in there somewhere! Grommet with flying goggles and a shaving cream shooting machine gun! YES! I think it would work well, but a bit of a slow flyer with the drag of such a bulbous fuselage, but something like that should fly slow so everyone can get a look! “Cheese Grommet, cheese!”
I hope the bounce doesn’t come out of your bungee.

I expect your biggest problem will be Gromit and his porridge-gun - they look really draggy. Maybe you could do him in profile?

Getting a good grip for hand launching could be difficult too...

Ok, so you got me thinking... who will be the first to arm an RC plane with silly-string? Now that would be fun in the park! Or Nerf "Sonic Darts" (they whistle). Or an airhorn (that would scare the bejezuz out of the pigeons). How about a small bubble machine?

I like the Gromit plane... I wonder if the tail is too short? It sure will be "pitchy". Because it is cartoon-scale, I don't think the artist took into consideration the ramifications of the tiny tail control surfaces... you might want to fudge it up to about 150%. You can probably fly it aileron/elevator only... I doubt the rudder will have much effect on the wing with that much wing and that short of a tail.

That is exactly what I am thinking. Only fly it with aileron/elevator. However I want to put wheels on it so that I can steer. Still debating.

Purefun, This is pretty interesting. I can think of a few more toons to try.

Warhead. BUBBLEBOMBS!!! Must have!!! Working on it now. Tiny hoop of wire hanging down. Just need to drip soapy stuff down the wire. Fly just upwind of FB and hose em down. Get soap in there eye's and you'd win combat for sure.

Kudos from a fellow W&G fan. Can't wait to see it completed.

Does anyone remember Stop That Pigeon?

Shaping the fuselage will be interesting. I have a lot of packing foam lay around. This will be my filler. Then there will be a lot of shaving and sanding. ( I hate sanding foam).
