A Flite Test Simple Soarer with a modified wing

This plane is the Simple soarer from Flite Test. What I did was used the same wing template but without the polyhedral angles and I added ailerons With 2, 9oz servos and a Y connector.

for the radio I'm using the same TacTic That came with R.F 7.5 ( it came with a free 6 channel receiver ) so I only bought the servos and a 6v Rx battery pack.

My first attempt to fly after 25 years. This is the one of the few slopes close to where I live. but the wind was blowing about 45 Degrees into the slope so I tried my best to keep the glider on the slope. This is a Scratch-build foamy so I wasn't expecting to fly that well. If you see it flying funny sometimes is because I was testing different C.G's and sometimes was tail heavy others were nose heavy. The wind was dying on me at the end so I had to stop.

winds were around 8-12 mph. at the end went down to the 5-8 mph

now I'm waiting for the new servos, extensions, "y" connectors for my other project. the 90 Inch wing span glider. so I can Finish it and make a video of it too.

Nice plane and good flying. I wish I had a gentle slope to fly off.

I still have more room for improvements on the glider. I'm slightly changing the angle of the horizontal stabilizer It wasn't penetrating like I wanted... Its like a huge elevator now. I had to trim it full to compensate the elevation creating unnecessary drag .

I'm fixing that and I'll give it a new test flight.

Thanks.

To slow .... needs a couple edf's. J/k.

I would love to find a place around me for some slope soaring, never tried it.

Once I get it right. This plane should glide like a sailplane is meant to glide.

I'm fixing the angle of the horizontal stab. This should make the glider fly faster. Even when the wing is flat, the airfoil doesn't help much is an under-cambered style airfoil (High Lift, Low Speed).

I'm not an expert with glider but I read in an article that sometimes you need to add more weight to the glider (ballast) so it can generate more energy to penetrate the wind and convert it to lift.

The best way to find out is by trial and error. so I'm preparing different sets of small weights That I can Add with Velcro in the CG of the plane and test it next time I fly it. maybe that will help with the speed issue.

The good things about foamies is that with basically $ 2.00 I can make another wing with a better airfoil for more speed.

I had built a DLG glider but with where I fly the winds change from day to day it seems. It would glide well after a toss but there just wasn't enough wind. I will build another one perhaps with even lighter wing loading.

You should...

With the right conditions... gliders can be fun

There has to be a park or place even with a small slope 10-20 feet that should give you enough lift for a DLG.

This video I did it on a 15-20 feet slope by about 150 feet wide. and the wind was on the 15-18 mph range

With the right conditions... gliders can be fun
