I don't mind laser cut parts, as long as it's not a mass produced kit.
I don't mind following published plans, as long as you cut (or laser cut) the parts yourself.
I don't mind creating one's own plans from the get-go.
I don't mind buying a few ready-made items ie engine mounts, canopies, cowls, landing gear. etc.
I don't mind one creating their own items listed above.

I favor a balsa and light ply scratch build forum a lot. I think it has merit.

Either a whole heck of a lot of time and patience with a straight edge and a xacto knife on the proper color covering or Figure out the sizes of everything I need and get some vinyl custom cut. I will try the hard way first but not sure how it will turn out.

If we're still voting....

YES

For a scratch / kit building forum... though the builders workshop is very similar... but the BW shows ARFs as well....

I have done a number of scratch build logs on the slope forum ,and that's where the people that are interested in what I'm building hang out, moving that into another forum would miss the target group for me . So I'm not quite sure what value it would be to have yet another forum
Dont get me wrong I'm not against it just not sure what it would achieve .

Hi Steve.
When I saw what the OP had done with his design and build,I was impressed.

So when he proposed we start a disscussion on the merits of having a Scratchbuilt Balsa and Lite-ply /kit building Forum,I got on board.

I spent a lot of time yesterday reviewing The Builder's Workshop......I have a discussion thread there,as there's no limitation on subject matter...If we start with recovered spruce spars,we can branch off to another part of a build,as information follows it's natural course.

I envisioned a forum dedicated to building a 'Generic'model airplane, showing all facets of doing so....Starting with a three view, published or drawn on a paper towel, information would be available to viewers wanting to try that.

Early on,one of my suggestions was a tightly controlled information center, avoiding materials considered beyond the scope of neophyte builders in a first effort. Carbon fiber, fiberglass cowls, foam cored parts, which are 'old hat ' to accomplished builders, are intimidating to beginners.-we're speaking here of 'constructing'them-not installing parts supplied with kits.

During my review,I discovered a general hodge-podge in the forums,as a whole,and realised that is totally accepted,apparently....

And then,as this discussion progressed,I learned that it's possible to narrow the information road too severely,as to not allowing hardwood engine bearers,or landing gear blocks, since it's not in the name tag.-hence the hodge-podge.....some 'incidentals' need to be added to complete the build.

So here's where we stand-we're gathering information,on an already moving train,as has been pointed out,to present a workable proposal to the front office. If this is considered premature,we have two solutions-one is to keep gathering information on what should and shouldn't be included, and decide when to present it..no,wait-that's the only one !

If you get stuck, shoot me a PM with dimensions and fonts.

If it's not 9ft long and I can do it on my vinyl cutter, it's yours.

Thats sweet. The plane is only 81" long or like 6.75' I think if I'm doing the math right in my head. What do you charge?
