just a quickie update on the Renown, beginning to take shape and all going well.
110 inches long and 14 inches wide, or in metric 2.76 metres by 356mm scale 1/87
Advice and any info welcome
I am building her in WW2 configuration
She is truly built out of scrap wood and because of its size it like building a garage!!!
Belt sander is a wonderful thing on something like this!

I Decided that the next project will be a WW2 oil tanker so i can refuel at sea!!.of course that could change too!!

I Hope you find it interesting

Just for info, HMS Renown is a WW1 WW2 Battlecruiser
Major reconstruction completed in 1939....model based on her 1939 configuration
approx 800 feet long and 102 feet wide
speed 30knots
6x 15inch guns

Fun is the word, since today as i see her coming to life before my eyes, i can't switch off!!
I really should try and go to bed!!!

Nice work Derek. What did you have to make the bulkheads? Just wondered where you got the forms. I see you like to build the big boats and that's great. It's easy to see what your doing in your pictures.
This is a super winter project and you'll have two great models to show for the spring. Please keep the pictures coming. Pete

Bulkheads are 3/8 ply all cut out with a jigsaw!
I had half a sheet of it laying around so got the keel and the bulkheads out of it

I bought the plans on ebay from Davesdrydock who has a online store on ebay
The plans are ok for the money but are not brilliant, but for a base and getting started they are perfect....cheap too!!
Pressure mounts now to make this model look good as i suddenly realise people are actually watching!!

Drat i looked at that site again for the plans and saw the WW2 HMS Ark Royal.....Force H rides again if i get HMS Sheffield too!

If i glued down some thin steel with epoxy over the fo'c'sle where the anchor chains run, will the epoxy carode the steel?

Had another productive day with being able to do a bit during work time
