Question
Scale steam engines in Oz?

Hi folks,

Ever since I was a young fella I used to love going into HobbyCo in the city (Sydney) and look at all the RC stuff and their little collection of scale steam powered work bench tools like lathes, band saws and other random tools.

Now I'm a bit older and can afford to buy one I would like one that I could use in a scale boat or tractor ect. I came across a website that I think was Australian but can't remember all too well that sold a whole range of them as HobbyCo was and still is quite expensive!

Does anyone know of a website where I can look at a whole range of steam engines??

I'd love to get one to use and or put on display here at home somewhere.

Any links would be awesome.

Hi TS

We have a steam car by these people, purchased when I was in London with parents some 35 years ago. Terrific fun.

Midwest make a steam engine kit and also an RC boat to suit it. My wife gave me the steam engine for my birthday so when It's finished I plan on getting the boat for it.

Oh yeah she got it on ebay and I don't think it was hugely expensive.

So if Model Engines are the importer/distributor you should be able to order it through most hobby shops.

G'day Mate, I think that Saito make model steam engines as well (or at least used too), I remember seeing them advertised in Airborne Mag ( I think) and from memory they were pretty bloody expensive

Yeah the ones I've perused in HobbyCo in Sydney haven't been cheap either! But I'm guessing I'll end up paying about $200 or so.

If you have access to a lathe and mill can i suggest the very good people at E& J winter. Exceptional servicel and fast shipping.

I have purchased many castings but sadly lack the time to complete the C38.
