Hope its OK to share something I found. This is the speed I'm talking about!

I'm reading up on winding now as a deeper venture to the realm of R/C!
Have aspirations of a torque monster motor slinging an airframe this quick.

Here's a plan I'll share. Will hot wire my own wings, bag them with balsa skin, ad my wave templates to the root and tip, cut the wave spar right into the bagged wing and bag it again with pre wetted 7oz carbon-cloth/epoxy. The wave will touch the skins. Then I'll cut in the strategicaly located servo area to cut it out along with the control surfaces. If I were slick I'd ad a strip of 1.5oz Kevlar tape to the hinge line while bagging the skins to start with for a skined Kevlar full length hinge line.

Interesting idea. Would you cut/bag the trailing edge separate so you can get a hot wire in the wing for the wave spar? I've only seen these in molded wings, but I guess you could do it.

I've bagged wings with carbon TE but I have better luck these days using a strip of .007 G10 thats stays flat and straight, easier to keep the TE straight when bagging. My thought was to bag the wing TE too, when the wave is cut take the pre preg on a sheet of plastic and work it into the crack holding the LE open, peel the backing off then bag again. I've been racking the noodle trying to figure how to build a bullet proof wing spar and remembering the pic of the composite wave spar wing when the light bulb lit. the hard part will seeing if scaling the rib template with a wave on it to see how much agrivation will occure between the tip and root wave size.

You got me thinking, what if the cloth used for the spar is pre pregged and left between sheets of cling wrap, then the whole thing is slipped between the pre cut wave inside the wing(wing is not sheeted and bagged at this point) then bag and let cure, Now we have a wave spar that can be tweaked, inserted into the wave cut n the core and bagged with surface skins all at the same time..

Wave spar? is that that fancy looking thing ive seen in a members profile picture? It looked like a hollow wing with well... a wave spar I guess

Anyway, interesting idea. I would have thought you would have to mould the wave spar and fully cure it off (or atleast partial cure) before you put it in place. But since you're doing a foam core wing your idea would probably work.

I guess this might be another idea?

What about getting the blocks of foam for the cores, cutting the desired wave profile into each half. Then laying the carbon into the wave and sticking the other foam block half ontop. So you end up with a sandwhich of foam, carbon wave spar, foam. Then you just cut your core from the foam block you've just made with the wave spar already cured inside it?
Could work?

Jaro Müller built his early espaditas with wave spars but he changed to standardbuilding as the wavesparwings showed wave structure at the surface after a while

Racecar wings usually are built with wave spar.

I think the advantage of it is that it self adjusts to fit the inside of the molded skins when you clamp the molds together. A feature lost on a foam core wing.

You can achieve almost the same with a CF hose with a flexible tube inside. Not a wave, but a trapeze profile. Used a CF hose drenched in epoxy pulled over a straw (Mac Donalds type) to fix a TE spar once. Cures in perfect shape.

F3S???? F3S is a FAI class for jet and EDF aerobatics--it is not a speed class. Seems as someone did not bother to check with the FAI?

Hmm thats weird because the FAI accepted some world records in the F3S class. What's your source Steve?

Edit: When do we get high performance outrunners from NEU like the inrunners??
