Slowstick modification thread...

Ok, I've got a slowstick coming from www.allerc.com and a GWS radio on the way from www.balsapr.com. I want to build it with the best of the mods suggested here in this group. So far, here are the best ones I've found:

1. Wood stick plug to give 3 degrees right and 3 degrees down thrust.

2. Stickin an arrow shaft or dowel into the stick to prevent it from bending.

3. Replacing aluminum wing reinforcing rod with brass one.

4. Putting packing tape on leading edge of wing and also a strip on the bottom full length of wingspan.

5. Using epoxy to glue the wing together.

Am I missing something that would help make this plane better?

Thanks,
RandyH

Just the forward section & maybe tail.

3. Replacing aluminum wing reinforcing rod with brass one.

Also, maybe .125 CF tubing to replace the fiberglass rods

5. Using epoxy to glue the wing together.

Sparingly, or use probond

6. Better wheels.

7. Reinforce landing gear wires.

8. CF pushrods

Good luck with your Slowstick... it is a great plane.

I did the wheel and CF mods, as well as a 12*6 prop, and it's all right after 30+ flights, including mods such as hitting mailboxes, bushes, and once getting tangled in a neighbors rooftop reindeer display (misjudged distance), but all in all, it's ready to fly on a moments notice. Motor is starting to lag a bit though. Could be the prop and the 8cell 1100 mah pack. I only stonp the throttle for taking off, then just putter around. It's nice to have that power when you need it. Kinda like being in my big super street V8. when you need to go, you can!

What is a good replacement motor for the HK slow stick. Seems like it needs more power. Can I go to a 1800KV?

SS motor

You would do better using a motor with a 1000 KV -800 KV and a bigger prop . Here a thread that will help http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407136 . Dan

Dan, Thanks much. Have briefly checked the thread; it looks like there is a lot of great info there.

If you use an 1800Kv motor on your Slow Stick be sure to stick with 2S packs.

Slow Stick

Your welcome . I need to get my old SS out an fly it , it been a hanger queen for 4 years now . It weight 14 oz an has a 100 watts to the prop . I have one slow stick that weight 12 oz ready to fly , only 60 watts on that one . They fly best with a lower kv motor an a bigger prop . You need thrust not speed , the lighter the better . Dan

Is there a mod to better mount a large battiery pack to the SS? Also what is a good motor for a SS set up for a small camera?
