I did my first night flights tonight. Two flights after sunset, lasting until 10:20. Ultimate Night Lights on an ancient Kadet Seniorita powered with an OS 40FS. It was fun, but I think I'll put a couple bright whites just under the front of the nose to light the ground a bit for landings.

Nice layout. I've been night flying for quite some time, so I forget what it was like the first time. Alot of people I talk to now have reservations about it. I am trying to drum up interest at my local field for some night flys.

What was your impression prior to the flights...and then what was your impression afterwards?

Well first things first, I decided when I did this I was going to do it with a 'real' plane, not a foamy (sorry foam guys, but I've owned a few and so far remain largely unimpressed). I chose Bob Umberger's light system because it looked pretty Cadillac, and I chose my Seniorita because I could still fly it if I were in a coma, so I didn't have any issues of confidence. We had a couple guys in our club try it a few years back without much success, so my flight last night was announced at our previous meeting and a few guys came out to watch, with one of the other guys doing a take off and landing with it as well, so I'd say the attempt was successful enough that the other guys are now going to be wiring up planes. The one thing I think I will do though is wire a pair of bright whites to shine a little light on the ground for landings.

I'm still thinking a purpose built stick profile with transparent covering lit up like some I've seen in this thread would be a real hoot, but we'll get there.

I also put some blue leds in the cabin of my Fox glider. I do not think I will be flying it at night.

That first picture looks like Scobee field. I've not been out there for several years, do they allow night flying now?

Hi Eclipse. Yes, both pics of the Titan were taken at Scobee. Yes, they do allow night flying at Scobee. We do not have a huge night fly group, but most night fliers take to the sky on Saturday night. Come on out.

Thanks! Lights are from hobbypartz.com (about 1518 LED's) and the LED controller is from Low Price R/C.

Very nice setup, Harrymc. I especially like how the leds are arranged in sort of a feather pattern near the wing tips.

I have the lowpricerc controller too. I also sell a much smaller version...and you could put several on a plane for many other possibilities.

1500 LEDS? Jeepers! I've got about 100 on my Radian; now I feel lame.
