I can get a long reach plug too, I just thought a short would be better. I want to go with the adaptor just for the fact of being able to go to the LHS when I need a plug fast, because I don't always have one on hand.

those Norvels like 15% or better of glow fuel and will help with idle.

For the life of me, I could never get my Bee .074 to properly run. Joe Wagner, the venerable engine guru suggested possibly removing the intake screen, which I tried. Left us both scratching our heads (through E-mails).

Then I found in Yahoo .049 Collector's Group that this was not an unusual occurrence. Didn't mean to derail this thread; the Cub with .074 Norvel engine is gorgeous.

Just curious, but did any have any luck with this engine? BTW, given its low power output equivalent roughly to a Tee Dee .049, its weight by comparison makes it a boat anchor.

I took the muffler off my Queen Bee and it runs better, pretty good as reedies go. Remember TD's usually have no muffler as a comparison. If you need a muffler at your club maybe a bigger outlet size may help if there is no noise limit. I don't think they are that loud compared to like an older .40.

I have an old .10 OS Max R/C baffle piston engine with only an articulated exhaust baffle plate connected in sync with the carb. At full throttle, its noise was the same as a reed valve .049. At half throttle or less, it sounded like it was muffled because of the exhaust restrictor plate. (It provided back pressure in absence of a muffler during idle.) I imagine the .074 Bee's unmuffled noise at full bore is about the same as a .049, as you say, certainly not like an unmuffled .40 engine.

Thanks for the tip; I may try it next time around and see if it will run reliably w/o the muffler.

I haven't tried with the engine much anymore. I want to try it again tomorrow, but I don't know if I will get to it. I did order the adaptor, I know it was said that it might effect the performance, but I don't need that much power and I really want to be able to use my glow starters. Thanks for the comment on the plane "okithumper".

Got the adaptor and the engine runs great. Went and flew it tonight and I love the way it flies. It is nice to have a floating plane.

The Queen Bee will spin a 6x3 at about 18000rpm, so it certainly beats a regular .049; RCUvideo

It is the regular glow plug that is the main problem, the low end can also bee improved upon by adding an airbleed hole.
The throttle also goes past full throttle, so that needs to be fixed too, or set with the servo throw (screen needs to be off to se this).

Can I just take that screen off. I hate it being on there.

Yes, it snaps right off and you don't need it.
In the video above you can hear it actually accelerates a little when I turn the throttle down, that was because the throttle can turn "beyond" full throttle. A bit of JB weld on the groove in the throttle barrel will fix it (done after that video s´was taken).

That is a good suggestion, I try a couple different plugs to see if there is one that works. I think it came with a plug. I'll replace it with another and see.

I'll keep this in mind, thanks.

So I need a little more power out of the little norvel .074. What size of prop should I go with, it has a 7x4 on it right now.

A 7x4 is too large, an APC 7x3 is about maximum. I prefer the APC 6.3x4 for regular sport usage, and you should get +17000rpm.
