thanks for the comments on the cowl one last advice request: I seen posting by others about using the parkzone corsair cowl, any comments on fit? How about the parkzone fw 190 cowl that is still available on e bay is it too small?
Again greatly appreciate the comments |

I have the PZ Corsair cowl. It fits nicely, but I glued 3 balsa blocks where the screw holes are so the cowl doesn't pinch or get crooked.
I left the flair on the open end, which doesn't look scale. I should trim it off while I've got it off and see if I can fit the two cowl blisters on. It looks more realistic with the "bumps" under the cowl. I found out my crash had loosened the motor mount. If all goes right, I'll be flying it in the morning (Sunday). Mac |

That's what I wrote above though... I thought you meant something else.... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=2554 My flight went perfectly, BTW! The 190 flew well and landed a little hard, but the gear withstood it. I think this plane needs to land hot. |

Check out mine with flaps and retracts, comes in a LOT slower with flaps, just have to watch out for tip stall if landing in a cross wind as was the case on this flight. If I land into the wind it's much slower then in vid but the ground is rough everywhere apart from the strip that I landed on and so I stick to the smoother stuff! The field has been terrible though the past year and so I cannot take off and land at all! ![]() A m8 put flaps on his and was amazed at how much nicer the landing were but unfortunately he put the servos arms sticking out of bottom of plane rather far and when he tried to belly land it ripped the servos up. I put mine so that hardly any arm shows from bottom and have not bellied it! I would think that unless you are using wheels then stick to no flaps and just take a long approach. |

um,
realy havnt seen a problem with landing this thing without flaps, when i load this thing up for long flight times i use a 4s 5000mah pack and the plane weighs in at 56 oz. its hard on the heavier gear i use as it bends it on taxi but still lands well, need to put even heavier gear in. when i land with all this weight i am realy pulling back on the stick and cloping the plane it realy holds in the air nicely. later andrew k |

5000mah 4 cell??? in a 1m fw190? hard to imagine where it would actually fit!
Some people seem to have well behaved ones but many like me who have the early epo version have found that they need a lot of speed to keep from a nasty tip stall, once the stall has started the only thing to do is allow it to dive and build up speed for a recovery-any attempt to recover b4 speed has built up results in a worse stall/spin, I moved the cog around to see if that helped but it did not, but with flaps down it turned into a pussy cat, with slow tight turns possible. It's such an easy mod as the flaps are almost there already, a quick cut and some hinges, install a couple of servos and away you go, the flap mod took me no more then 1/2 hour, the retracts took quite a bit longer but was worth it-there is something about seeing the wheels go up after a take off that impresses me (dont ask me why lol). |

When I build the 190 I've been hoarding I plan to use both retracts and flaps. I also have several spinners and props from the hobbico/flyzone FW that I plan to use for a more scale look. Nice landing BTW! Regards, Alan |

after reading comments re. tip stall i feel the need to tell of a recent discovery. mine is one of the early eps versions and has seen many flights, >100 easily. even w/ this being the lighter foam getting cg forward enough was a bit of a struggle. w/ a 80 gram motor i still needed to use a 2250 in the stock battery box to just make book cg. at 33oz , i never thought of this one as light and it flew that way , good but needed some speed both in flight and landing. i got used to it and flew it a lot.
move forward 2 years and i am flying 1 day and have a motor mount failure. motor hanging by the wires ect. get it landed ok dead stick , so its time for a new box style ply motor mount . being that i always wanted to be able to use a smaller battery , i moved the motor out a 1/2" or so and repositioned the cowl. between the mount, moving the motor forward, i was able to use a 1800/3's and balance was slightly forward(<1/4") of where i flew it for years . the plane was still the same auw due to the mount ect but just the small cg change made more difference than i can tell u. now i am one that likes my planes on the tail heavy side, more responsive , float better ect, but in this case the landing and slow flight is like a different plane. normally i would have played w/ the cg early on but due to battery location and the fact it was at book cg , i just called it good . so the lesson, at least on this one is don't be afraid to go forward at bit further on the cg if u can. chuck |

yep,
i have never had a problem with cg it will fly werever. this plane is so forgiving. mind you it needs to fly fast it is a war bird but remember it will only roll farther at a higher speed landing. very interesting about the flaps. might do this mod. man you could put a 6s 5000mah pack in this thing it sounds like with flaps. my plane is the early eps version. by the way last summer i had someone toss this thing at the lake to take off and fly darn near hit a tree because i needed some room to get moving. I did a belly landing with this weight. i had to because there was no runnway. but it can be done. lol later andrew K |
