Saito alcohol burner

I know there have been lots of discussions about alcohol burners, but I am looking for some detailed info regarding the Saito alcohol burner. I am planning to duplicate one, but I don't know how the orifice is arranged inside the larger tube.

Does it point straight down, or does it point forward?
Is there a needle valve to control air flow at the back of the larger tube?

I've been able to figure out how the rest of the burner is assembled from various pictures and drawings, but I've never seen down the burner tube.

Thanks for any help!

Hello,
The jet nozzle faces forward (in the direction the flame comes out, as all standard gas jets do). The large valve on top regulates the alcohol flow. There is no special control for the air flow. There is also a small screw at the back of the main burner tube, whose exact function I couldn't ascertain. I tried turning it while it burned but nothing seemed to change. It could be just a hole for cleaning the jet nozzle (?).

Thanks for the reply!
So there is a pipe on the top connected to the tank with a wick inside and a shut off valve at the end. Below this pipe is the burner pipe, and I can't see how it is connected to the top pipe. Is it a 'T' connection?

Sorry for the late reply. The shut off valve connects to the lower burner pipe. It is drilled through.

I use what is referred to as denatured alcohol.
They sell it in any hardware or home improvement store in the USA.

It has an additive in it that makes it undrinkable.

I guess you could run on vodka if the proof was high enough.
But the denatured is cheaper, at least around here. . Dave.

Thank you guys for the answer! I've realized that you need a good clean alcohol. About denaturin already read on the forum. Until he found in his stores. We simply find medetsinsky alcohol or ethyl. Vodka will not work.
