Welcome to RCGROUPS (E-ZONE) !!!!

What kind of performance are you looking for? How much do you want to spend?

I think that bird would be a good candidate for an AXI 2820-10.

Hi Bob!

Welcome to Ezone. It's good to hear from you!

The AXI 2820-10 mentioned above is what I have in that Chipmunk I showed you a year or so back. It swings the same propellor as your Cobalt 05G, but at about 6-700 more RPM, on 10 cells.

Assuming about a 5 lb AUW, the 05G would be being pushed pretty hard to give good sport performance. Running flat out just to maintain maneuvering speed is very hard on components. It is better to over-power, and fly throttled back.

I would want at least 500W, for good performance on a semi-symmetrical, high-performance sport plane. I use about 120 W/lb (input) in my V1, about 170 in my Super Chipmunk, and about 190 in my Sea Fury. The V1 is significantly faster than my first Tempest Mk V electric (the one you saw in London), and the other two will climb vertically to rediculous heights. On 1700's, the latter two fly so far throttled back that both have a duration in the 6-8 minute range.

The V1 and Sea Fury can be seen in video coverage of this year's Mid Am Lunch demo, here on E-zone.

For the Sr Falcon, I might consider something a little larger, for strong performance. Maybe the new AXI 2826,or the next size up of direct drive brushless. The new Astro 25 geared brushless would give stunning performance, with the right cell count and prop.

You'll want a controller in the 45A + range, unless you are running 18 or more cells.

If going with Nickel cells, the "latest" for duration:weight at higher currents, like you will be drawing, are the GP 2000/2200, and the Sanyo 1950 FAUP. I also like the CP series NiCd's, but I find the 1300's start to have trouble pushing out the current above 35 A or so. The 1700's seem to handle up to 50A without losing much power.
