Wicked setups for various EDFs.
I decided to make a posts to cover all the various setup questions I get. I get many similar questions on what motor fan combo etc so thought a big list of options would be easiest for everyone.
So here is goes. I will add more and edit as I go. |

This page is various recommended power setups for the Phase 3 EF-16 and Squall kits.
64mm fan options: Setup A: For 3S lipo only (about 350-380 watts) This is for those who want a little more than what typical stock 64mm 3S power system give which is about 270 watts. Wicked 4800 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=52 EDO Type 2 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=86 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 *NOTE: The EDO Type 1 fan may also be used instead of the EDO Type 2: EDO type 1 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=74 Setup B: For 4S lipo (about 600 watts) Lightweight 4S setup Wicked 4000 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=62 EDO type 1 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=74 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 Setup C: For 4S lipo (about 675 watts) Slightly heavier due to bigger motor but also more efficient than the light 4S setup Wicked Plus 4000 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=92 EDO type 1 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=74 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 60 amp ESC: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 Setup D: For 4S lipo (about 830 watts) For 4S lipo, max power I sell in 64mm. Wicked Plus 4000 with standoff and 3.17mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=92 HET 6404 64mm fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...product_id=120 Mount and Dynamic balance (be sure to select HET balancing): http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 60 amp ESC: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 Using the stock EF-16 fan unit or stock Squall fan unit. If you already have the stock EF-16 fan unit you must first make sure which version you have my measuring the diameter of the rotor, or the inside diameter of the fan housing (not the outside diameter). They have two versions of fan units. One is 70mm (newer EF-16 and all Squall kits) and the other is 56mm (original older EF-16 fan unit). The 70mm rotor is either 3 or 5 blades and the housing will have 8 vanes in it, the 56mm rotor is 3 blades and the housing has 3 vanes in it. 70mm Motor Recommendation: For the EF-16/Squall 70mm fan: 700 to 800 watts on 4S depending on 3 or 5 blade rotor Can also be flown on 3S as well, watts will about 400 or so on 3S lipo Wicked Plus 4000 motor with standoff and XF rotor plug option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=92 Pentium 60 amp ESC: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 56mm Motor Recommendation: For the older EF-16 56mm fan: Wicked 5400 with standoff and XF rotor plug option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=50 The 5400KV will give stock power on 3S but will really perform on 4S (which it was intended for). You will want a 40 amp ESC but if you are going to use high C lipos like 40C and run full throttle most of the time on 4S then I suggest a 60 amp ESC to be safe. 60mm setups for the Phase 3 EF-16: These setups are what I originally used when plane first came out. They still work well. 60mm Option 1: For 3S (about 320 watts) and 5 blade rotor in Wicked 60mm fan: (can be flown on 4S ~600 watts but you may want a 60 amp ESC unless you runs a smaller 4S lipo like a 1800 mah) Wicked 4800 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=52 Wicked 60mm EDF http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 60mm Option 2: For 4S and 5 blade rotor in Wicked 60mm fan: (dedicated 4S setup about 500 watts) Wicked 4000 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=62 Wicked 60mm EDF http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 60mm Option 3: For 4S (about 670 watts) and 5 blade rotor in Wicked 60mm fan: Wicked Plus 4400 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=93 Wicked 60mm EDF http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 60 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 |

These are my recommendations for typical 64mm EDF jets.
Examples are: Hobby Lobby Mig 15, F-86, Panther, Stinger Banana Hobby Blitz and Nitroplanes Max Jets: F-117, SR-71,F-5, T-38, Stinger, A-4, F-18, F-15, B-2, F-22. F-35 64mm fan options: Setup A: For 3S lipo only (about 350-380 watts) For 3S 2200mah 30C This is for those who want a little more than what typical stock 64mm 3S power system give which is about 270 watts. Wicked 4800 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=52 EDO Type 2 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=86 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 Setup B: For 4S lipo (about 600 watts) For 4S 2200 lipo 30C Lightweight 4S setup that is also the setup recommended for those looking to replace the stock motor that has burned out. See Setup E below for stock setup power for 3S. Wicked 4000 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=62 EDO type 1 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=74 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 Setup C: For 4S lipo (about 675 watts) For 4S 2200 lipo 30-40C Slightly heavier due to bigger motor but also more efficient than the light 4S setup Wicked Plus 4000 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=92 EDO type 1 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=74 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 60 amp ESC: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 Setup D: For 4S lipo (about 830 watts) For 4S lipo, max power I sell in 64mm. Wicked Plus 4000 with standoff and 3.17mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=92 HET 6404 64mm fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...product_id=120 Mount and Dynamic balance (be sure to select HET balancing): http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 60 amp ESC: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 Setup E: For 3S lipo (about 300 watts) This is the setup recommended for those looking to replace the stock motor that has burned out and like the stock power. On 3S it will be ~300 watts so make sure your stock ESC is a 30 amp as some stock setups use to come with 25amp ESC. Wicked 4000 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=62 EDO type 2 fan unit http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=86 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 30 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=2 |

Here are my 50mm EDF recommendations:
For the Jpower F-16 and 3S lipo (3S 1320mah 30C) Will go about 85 mph on this setup with the thrust tube per my build thread, also this is the easiest setup to fit into the F16, if you want more speed in the F16 see the setup B below: Setup A: Wicked Wemo Combo 5400 KV http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=97 (I suggest the mount and dynamic balance option) Pentium 30 amp ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=2 For the rest of the Jpower 50mm series I recommend either one of these two setups. Setup B: Wicked Wemo Combo 6000KV, for 3S 1800 30C lipo http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=97 (I suggest the mount and dynamic balance option) Pentium 40 amp ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 Setup C: Wicked Wemo Combo 4800KV, for 4S 1300 30C lipo http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=97 (I suggest the mount and dynamic balance option) Pentium 40 amp ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 Which setup, B or C, you choose really depenes on what lipo fits the battery area better. |

60mm setups for any of the Alfa EDF jets such as the Mig-15, F-86, A-4 etc also for the HobbyKing twin 60mm F-14
For any of the 60mm jets you really want the 5 blade rotor. The Alfa 5 blade rotor is blue in color and like the 3 blade rotor, it requires a 3mm rotor plug to mount to it. If you have a Wicked motor and Alfa rotor already then you just need to buy the rotor plug to mount to your Wicked motor. Here is the rotor plug: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=51 http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=79 If you want to buy a Wicked motor to fit the Alfa rotors then then choose the "standoff with Alfa rotor plug" option when ordering the motor. If you unable to find that rotor you can buy the Wicked 60mm fan unit which is a clone of the Alfa fan (please note that it uses a different rotor attachment method.) Here are some various successful setups for the 60mm fan ( the performance specs for the Wicked 60mm EDF are identical to the Alfa 5 blade rotor) . Also to maximize the speed on the 60mm fan unit you want a thrust tube with a 1.8" exit diameter. 60mm Option 1: This setup on 3S is a good sport setup, gives some speed and duration. 3S 2200mah lipo recommended For 3S (about 320 watts) and 5 blade rotor in Wicked 60mm fan: (can be flown on 4S ~600 watts but you may want a 60 amp ESC unless you run a smaller 4S lipo like a 1800 mah, also pushed motor to it max so be careful on WOT runs) Wicked 4800 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=52 Wicked 60mm EDF with laser cut alfa ring http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 60mm Option 2: 3S setup for max speed (about 450 watts), will go about 100 mph in an Alfa model with thrust tube installed and 3S 2200 30C lipo. Wicked 5400 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=50 Wicked 60mm EDF wiht laser cut alfa ring http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 60mm Option 3: Intended for 4S and 5 blade rotor in Wicked 60mm fan: Can be flown on 3S , watts will be about 230 so use smaller 3S lipos to keep the weight down. Wicked 4000 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=62 Wicked 60mm EDF with laser cut alfa ring http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 40 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...t&product_id=3 60mm Option 4: For 4S (about 670 watts) and 5 blade rotor in Wicked 60mm fan: Max speed, about 115-120mph in Alfa models with thrust tube. Speed may damage the model if not reinforced properly. Wicked Plus 4400 with standoff and 3mm shaft http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=93 Wicked 60mm EDF with laser cut alfa ring http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=75 Mount and Dynamic balance: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89 Pentium 60 ESC http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=43 |

Thanks for the order! I recommend that when you assemble it to balance the rotor with that motor.
