hitec sevos

Building my first dlg and was thinking of using the hitec hs 45hb in the wing and the hs 35hd for elevator, no rudder. Will these provide enough torque and durability? Any advice is appriciated.

hs45's work fine -- for while. I used them on a couple DLGs (3-4 years back), and they worked great for about a year, then the pots starting going wonky. it happened on several of them, so despite their good qualities, I won't use them any more.

Maybe Hitec has gotten a better source for potentiometers since then, so take my opinion with the appropriate number of grains of salt...

I think Hitec did get a new pot for both. They were both unavailable for some time but recently returned to the market.

Would 11oz of torque be enough for the wing or would I be asking for trouble?

IIRC the 45`s are a bit to thick for wing servos [10mm]

Otherwise pretty good.
Specs can never be trusted, Heck, they claim 20 oz for the Dymond d47

If they fit, use them. Hitec`s stuff is usually quite reasonable. I know they center we;ll for example and the gear trains are excellent

That could be a problem, my new wing is in transit so I don't know exactly how thick it is. The hs 35 would fit but I'm concerned about the torque.

I've had good luck with the airtronics 94802 for wings, and JR285 for the pod. Kinda "old school" these days, but they work. the '802 can be a little thick for some wings, but they can usually be shoe-horned in. The JR Sport SM22 is the analog version of the DS285, and also works fine if you want to save a little money.

The Hyperion DS09-SCD looks exactly like the '802, but I personally have had issues with them failing. Other folks use them w/out issue. What can you do...

I've recently been using the KST X08. Seems to be a great servo, and is smaller than any of the above.

the Hitec HS35 is a nice servo, but I'll only use it in mini DLGs (e.g. the Elf).

Other than the pot issues I had with the HS45, I really liked it - PLENTY of torque for DLG. In general, most any >6g servo will have ample torque.

I was looking into the KTS, just want to research all the options first. $35 per servo plus shipping is a little more than I wanted to spend but might have to.

+1. I have used the 35 in a minifireworks and they work great. I would not use them on full size dlg. Paul and I have been using HS 45's for tails on pull spring for years now.

Seems like KTS for the wing and Hs45 for pull spring is going to be the best option for me. Is it still ok to cut the tabs off the KTS? Thanks for advise

I have had huge failure rates on the KST 245s and x08s... like four bad in the 12 I have purchased. Had another fail this weekend after abut 2 hours of use... very disappointed with these.

If you spend that much, get Hyperions or Airtronics 802s

Thats alot of bad servos, I was just going to look on where to buy them, but that chaged my mind. What hyperions are you using? Would airtronics have any problems being used with a futaba tx if I change the servo connector?

It seems what might work well for one person someone else has had problems with.

All of the servos now have the same connector style. They are very much interchangeable.

DLGs typically use the DS09 SCD from Hyperion's line.

I think all servos over the past couple of years have had some QC issues. I like the KSTs but I can't seem to keep them working. I've also had a few of the Hyperions bad out of the box to be fair, but a much smaller percentage. I buy a LOT of servos.
