Su-47 model?

Looks cool, but I'd love to hear about info/reviews/etc. How fast, it is worth the dough?

Anyone?

That is the SU-47 produced by fly-it-yourself.com. I will be testing one shortly. I'm just wainting for my shipment to arrive. I'll report back if no one else chimes in by then.

I was tooling around looking at EDF jets and warbirds, and happened upon this beauty.

It looks spot-on in details, and the quality seems comensurate with the price for a RTF.

Anyone have experience? I looked here in the forums, but no mentions of it at all cept this thread.

Absolutely sinister looking...

Is this a good first twin? How does the top speed compare to other kits out there? Can you slow it down at all?

Only available as an RTF?

I picked one up from Nitro models/ planes website.

Will have it in a week. I'll have a good update then.

It was just too damn nice looking not to grab one.

Got the Jet. Box was smaller than I expected.

Oh, I'm so glad to know !

http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/479...3215114_rs.jpg

OH NOES ! there is WITCHES !

The instructions were hilarious with some typos and improper wording, but was clear and easy to use with good pictures.
There was no instructions as to how to set up the radio equipment as the RX was not installed in the plane at the time which could also be a nice thing for people who are more interested in just using the plane and their own radios.

http://aycu29.webshots.com/image/482...5505905_rs.jpg

The gear kit that came with it seemed good quality. should be able to handle a few hard landings.

http://aycu03.webshots.com/image/480...5381362_rs.jpg
Fairly nice charger, and it ballances as well. NO AC ADAPTER that I could find, so I'll have to figure that one out on my own.
The Lipo.... no idea the brand or quality, but the plugs and wiring look to be of good quality.

http://aycu09.webshots.com/image/492...6474279_rs.jpg

nosecone came pre weighted and is hollow plastic that gets glued ont he front. I was a tad dissapointed about this, but it may be a blessing in desguise as it will be easy to replace once I smash it * and yeah I know it will smash, I always am busting up the nose on my planes.

More pix of build comming soon.

Someone said this was "junk" on another forum and made by GUANLI.

I'm familliar with the GUANLI stuff, and this is miles away from it.

72 mhz full porp controls, and quality EDF/ brushless, twin esc's, the servos are "Bluebird" (perhaps knockoffs?) and the battery is LiPo.

Made by a company called FIY "Fly It Yourself" they have a f-16 also that is rhumored to fly nicely.

SO, ok,

I got 90% of the assembly done, charged the batteries, and set the toggle switches. It is set for mixing and all the DIP SWITCHES are where they should be.

I ran the servos and the hardware through a few "paces" on the bench, and I can say without a doubt that the wing servos suck ass. I had one lock up and "freeze" on me twice, then it stripped a gear.

I'm replacing both with some E-Flite s-75s I'm not taking the chance on them locking up in mid flight.

The wing aleron hinges are not attached very well with the kinda crappy HongKong "tacky glue" and I had the throws set at maximum and I ripped one off the surface of an aleron (closest to the servo control rod). I reglued it and it is fine now.

the engines sing a nice loud as hell hum and for fear of waking my upstairs neighbor, I didn't go past 1/4 throttle, but it was enough to blow papers off my desk, so I can tell this baby has a lot of grunt sofar.

Hopefully this is the end o my issues with it.

I put some double sided tape in the landing gear as a "spacer" for where it mounts to the brackets (will post pic soon) and I was also able to utelize some gorilla glue to button up a few minor crevaces and make it a structuraly sound wing structure as it mounted to the fuselague.

I think the pieces of this model go together very well. They fit together nicely and the fit and finish is on par with all the other RTF models out there (if not better). The linkage is interesting and has screws for securing - not the cheap clevises you typically find.

After powering mine up, I am not sure if I am hearing vib or the beat note of both motors. I cant see or feel and strong vib, but the exhaust note is certainly different than a single edf. I measured the model at 28oz, and was getting 18 oz of thrust.

I am wondering on the motor kV, it might be nice to go to a higher kV motor (like the stock hp f-16 motor). Anyone know motor specs??

Also does anyone know the correct CG location?? Its not in the manual

I maidened mine and it flew really nose heavy. They even put some putty in the nosecone, wasnt sure if that was needed or not. Also lost a nut on the elevator control linkage in flight! Other than that it was a pretty cool flight, this thing is a sight to see in the sky.

su47 CG

Hyperdyne congradulations on the successful maiden.. Here is the CofG on the FIY SU47. Also if you put a drop of CA on the nuts they will not come off; I had the same issue and the CA solved it.

William

I had to pull mine apart cause of manufacturing defects! I believe the kv was 4400kv. Two of the hp f-16 would indeed be better on 3s at 5100kv. Better yet two lsjs on 4s would be surely over 1.1 ttw. The fans are good! They are a type of xf fan with its own molded lip like the gws fans.

What kind of defects did you have?

I am still getting some vib sounds but not sure if it is true vib. The motors stop fairly abruptly when power is removed. But I dont see any of the fan blades rubbing at all. They are a pretty good fit.

I am wondering if the HP-16 motors would fit right in. I might try that as I have 2 of them sitting around. On stock I am getting about 0.6 thrust-weight. Would be nice to get that up to above 0.8.

Colito, thanks for the CG info. Against my better judgment I flew it without checking CG! I just had to see if fly once. LOL But I will go back now and check CG and tighten everything up.

BTW, if you are looking to get one of these check out www.turbofanelectrics.com. Nice price for the RR version!
