Did alot of detail on the 16 this week. Installed the Canopy and decided to make a shell in order to get easier access to the Batteries. Did the layout today and the cutting, used a dremel with a fine cutting wheel. Used some 1/32 ply to make the rails. Everything is coming out great, should be ready to paint in the next week or two.

Working one the hatch and found the Byron Cockpit insert fits perfectly on the inside of the fuse. Always thought that they made this Cockpit insert to go around the outside of the flange which never looked like it would fit properly. On the down side in order to make it work you will have to make your own hatch assembly, I think the extra effort will pay off later.

Anybody now were to get a 1/8 scale Thunderbird pilot?

Just completed the Hatch & Canopy last night, came out great. Decided to use 1" 3/32 disks to align the side rails and a carbon pin in the front. Made a Quick release latch that was installed in the back. Going to do some clean up at this point and get ready to paint hopefully this weekend. After the color will install the stabs and get those aligned to the wings, at that point will start the Aileron cutting.

Dan, thanks for the link. Your post got me looking to another site that provides pilot figures in many sizes. They do have a T bird 8th scale which I already ordered and am hopping that it will be here in the next couple of days. They also make cockpit gauges, wanted to pass this link along.

As soon as I get the parts will be sure to add a few pics of the pilot & detail work under the fish tank.

First coat of paint went on with out any trouble. Will have a little touch up on the white but think we will be ready for the trim and graphics later tomorrow.

Very nice!!

Just as a matter of mentioning...I live in San Jose, and Newark is just around the bottom of the bay from San Jose (unless there is another Newark I am unaware of), but according to RCG, you are 328 miles from me (at least that's what it says just below your avatar)...

My page indicates, only 94 miles.

imacswd is 1552mi , steve t is 1646 mi, from me that is!

So lets see how accurate this actually is. I have often wondered.

Here is a link that might help on the location of Newark. Fremont pretty much surrounds Newark and Fremont is on the east side of the Bay area between Oakland & San Jose.

Yeah....Newark is only 17.95 miles from my home (according to Google earth), but to drive it, it is longer....but not 328 miles...
