What next..
btw i went over again today, and asked about RC sailing practice this week.. was told by their roving security team ( with 4 big burly guys on a all terrain vehicle) that the only place we can park to sail during the week is near the restroom by the freeway side bridge over -pass on the south west side.. but that it was Ok to park over there to sail tomorrow. Fortunately i believe this HALO event will be over by the points Racing ( and Club officer Elections) this Week Noon Saturday. Nov 3rd. .

conditions were a little light but perfect.. .. unfortunately no one showed up at the pond today so i spent the time trying to tune the boat up a bit.. ...

San Diego is listing a two day/two class fall regatta on their website. ODOMs on Saturday Nov 17, and IOM on Sunday Nov 18.

The entry form is on their web site at

Two of us are planning to drive in from Yuma for the weekend to take part in both classes.

Who else is planning to attend. . . please get in your entry before the deadline.

This is November's Newsletter

We had a great Regatta over the weekend..
I want to give Steve Bales( our new member from Barstow CA) credit for hanging in there.. winning isn't everything.. he's a great sport and great guy to sail with and I especially appreciate the fact Dennis Rogers (who came in 1st by the way both days ) saw Steve was getting frustrated.. and took some time after the ODOM races to give him a few pointers, sail his boat and talk about sail twist and vang etc.. .. It's really easy to get discouraged when 1st starting .. and later too.. these boats aren't easy to sail fast and it takes a while to get over that hump.. I know.. I'm still in a slump a lot of times too,
but also know it's just part of the challenge.

Also a BIG Congrats to GotMilk's skipper ( John Tyer) for ALMOST making it 1st to the weather mark, for his 1st time ever he said, and then sadly 3 seconds later he ran aground before his final tack to the lay line.... it's a terrible FATE I say, John was doing really well in ALL the races.. patience pays..

And a special thank you to Rich Rogers who did a super job as RD for both days.. lots of work.. very little thanks..Thank you Rich!

Most of you know I have to zip back to work after a quick sail over lunch.. and after a couple soggy/ sloshy-sock days decided to try to fix this problem with a ..6 inch, $1.75 strip of Vynil from JoAnn's clothing just down the street form the pond.. and some Elmer's glue.. I know it's water proof.. but we'll see if it holds up..

Don't give up, ODOM is a cool boat and the quality of the fleet is very good. You will learn more as time goes on. Don't be shy asking for tuning advice. Have fun and sail fast. Ryan

Dale is also an ODOM skipper and is in dire straights in the hospital right now.... could you give him a "Hello Dale .. Hope your'e doing better", and hope we see you back at the Pond again soon.

I miss him a lot and wish him the best of luck..

Forgot to mention this important news:

Spotted in the wild last week Wed was ODOM/SB sailor "Big Chris" .. we hadn't seen him in a few months.. but all were glad to see him back at the pond..

He's been "Busy Workin'".. a pretty lame excuse if you ask me..

Dale Gottdank is back, and is in a Kaiser hospital here in San Diego as of late last night.

I'll try to find out when he can see visitors if he wants to do so.. that may be a while..after all, he's had 6 surgery's. He's going to need help and a lot of PT to get back to sailing and sloping but there's a lot of folks pulling for him. Welcome Back Dale.. we miss you and hope to see you at the pond soon..
