I'll say, $230.00 for a cockpit.

UPDATE: 02/05/09

Well my Laser Cut Parts from Laser Lizard showed up today on time!

Whoo Hoo!!!

Boy ... I forgot just how big this thing really is. The last one I built I cut out all the wood myself, it took a couple of days doing it and If someone was kit cutting them back then ... Let me tell you I would have gladly paid the the $155.99 for it hands down. The kit is all here and is in just absolutely perfect condition. The box arrived (all 12 pounds of it) like it never saw the FedEx truck.

I will be starting the build on the fuselage tomorrow and will give updates on how I will be building it into a pattern and getting it ready to make a mold of it. The wing part of the kit ,,,, well I'm not sure if I will build it, box it up or sell it, I guess time will tell.

The Good Part:

I didnt have to drill ALL 318 holes!

Now for the bad part:

The plans airfoil height is pretty thick and the 3021 - 9.5% I am wanting to do just isn't beefy enough at the trailing edge to make use of the flaps in my opinion. This simply wont do! I will only build this IF I CAN make the dive breaks functional ... simple as that! I think I might have to either chose another airfoil, or change the thickness or ???????

Ideas are more than welcome:

I have posted a picture of #2 rib and a plot of the 3021 and both are 24". You can see the dive breaks are going to be a serious issue.

Well here we go ..........

Due to my vast experience in such things, and since it is your plane, and since it is really to late for me to make any sense whatsoever, here is my advice. See you Saturday evening...

At this venture, I am trhinking I am going to die with that information,....or lack thereof.

I put some time delay relays in a controller two weeks ago at work, and when I went back to put in the proper ones, could not remember for the life of me where the temporary ones came from. I made a few calls before pulling them offline, and my co-workers remninded me that Iwas the one who put them in.

You will have to call me at home, tell me to walk out to the garage, and measure it, then I might be able to get you said information.........getting old sucks.......

Doogie

Saturday evening looks good. BTW, I havd added a picture for your curiosity

Doug,

I tried calling your cell several times last night but I am coming to the conclusion that I just need to go over there and measure it for you!

As far as Saturday evening, unless I can come up with a solution on these dive breaks, it might be in limbo .... I will let you know tonight.

Some more Good and Bad news.

The parts I ordered from Ziroli, like the Canopy, Engine and the Cowl came Friday.

Good news;

The Cowl and the Canopy look very good and both are VERY HUGE I was curious as to how much water the Canopy would hold, so I flipped it upside down and pored 2 gallons of water in it. It held all of it! The only down side is the Cowl is made of polyester resin. I was hoping for epoxy, but I guess polyester will do.

Bad News;

The cast engine, ... well ... the pour quality of the resin was okay, not the best but workable. It has probably around 20 - 30 small bubbles with some of them in the fin areas but all are repairable with little trouble. The problem I have with this engine is that the sculpting quality looked like a school project. The engine casing is not even symmetrical, not even close. The engine valve covers looks like someone formed them with thumb pressure indents. The push rod location indexing indents are not level, not evenly spaced and the center whole isn't even centered. I would send it back for an exchange but it came from a mold, so they will all look like this.

I will be remaking the Engine (the proper way) by hacking this thing apart and making almost half the thing myself. Like I'm not short on time already.

If there is enough intrest here and you guys want to see how I do this, I can post it here or I can do a seperate thread. It's up to you.

Note to Ziroli crew;

If you read are reading this ... Your Engine SUCKS! You need another pattern made. If you want one done right PM me, ... and we can work something out.

Hey Bill,
Picture #4 of the cowl, looks like 3 1/2"+ to the shadow. Were you measuring the shadow???

Yup, ... I knew you wanted to see it! Just how often does one get to see a 3.5" shadow in a Dauntless Cowl.

I thought I would post a couple of shots from the plans from the Dive Flaps area just so you can see why I am trying to figure out the best airfoil for this thing. I would like to keep the control linkage inside the wing so they don't get ripped off on the first landing.

Bill,

If you want a decent engine without spending too much time reworking the Ziroli item, you could do a lot worse than getting one off Frank Tiano:

salisbug,

It looks to me like it is the same casting or am i seeing things?

All I'm going to do is pick the best cylinder cut it off and make a silicone mold of it and then cast 9 of them. I will also make the crank case, then slap it all together. From there, I will make a master silicon mold of the NEW engine and pour me a SWEET one.
