I recently bought a Midwest PT-109 on ebay that had a few parts missing, it needs two torpedo tubes, 50 cal guns, depth charges and misc vents and other deck fittings. Midwest says they no longer produce this kit nor do they make any replacement parts. Any thoughts on how to replace them? I checked out Mosquito Boat Hobbies, but it doesn't appear they carry 1/24 stuff which appears to be the scale. I've got a great hull, deck, cabins and hardware, just need the details.

You are most likely going to have to make those parts from scratch, yourself.

Here are a couple pics that may help you.

Check at Loyalhanna or Floating Drydock for parts from John R Haynes in 1:24 ($$), or scratch build them. I think they offer kits, but John will sell parts too. No tubes though, just roll-off torps.

If it's the old luan plywood kit, at 33", it's roughly 13/32" to the foot. Thus, it's closer to 1/32 scale (12/32" or 3/8" to the foot). At 1/32, the hull should be 30" long.

The MK18 torpedo tube should look like this:

That's the smaller Dumas kit in 1:32. Midwest had a 1:24 RTR from China.

Close to 1/32'nd scale is 1/35'th plastic model armour. Tamyia has 50 cal. M-2 machine guns in one of their accessory packs.

OK, great ideas from all, thanks, keep um coming if you have them. If by chance anyone has a totalled Midwest 109 that they were parting out, that would be great.

The only parts I had ever heard of before in 1/24 was H&R's two guns. I will have to check those other sources from Pat.

Pat, it wasn't RTR. It was ARF. You have to add your radio and esc.

These look pretty good, this is a start in the right direction, I assume this is your boat? What did you do for the ventilators and such? Looks like the torpedo tubes will be the biggest pain.

Convert to a late war boat, either with four roll-off fish, or 2 fish and 2 depth charges. And then you can do a camo job too!

Italeri is releasing a late war Elco 80 footer in 1/35 scale. Release is fall of 2006. With a length of 27", we should see several on the water next year.
