Why, I even think the pilot is our very own Ajbaker .

Now that was funny. That was the 2nd and 3rd time that I hit that pole. You would think that the all balsa plane would be a total loss. But, it took about 1/2 hr to fix all the damage. It is good to let everyone know that I can crash like many others and still laugh about it.

I'm thinking about modding a second pair of wings to include flaps, that would make Bixler 6 servo plane. What amperage must BEC be able to supply to these 6 servos? Would 2 A BEC be enough?

And at any rate, how effective are flaps on Bixler? My intention is to be able to safely land at tight spots (which is quite essential for aerial videography, where the best spots are usually rather unsuitable for landing).

I'm fairly nervous using a 2A with just 4 servos, but that's just me Seperate BEC for added security I'd say.

Go for it flaps work well on the floaty Bixler.

I also have the full house set up + (2) gyros. I am using a 40amp ESC w/internal 4a SBEC from Hobbyking, found here. $17 w/buddy code. Never had a problem. I like the flaps a lot although my flying space does not exactly require them. Others have shown video here that shows a dramatic difference in tight spots. Good luck!

Hey AJ check out post #2976 and re read from there. This is one of the retaining methods i was talking about.{only took an hour to find it}.

Hey proff 100, is that latch method for your wings still working, you know, the method from antennahead?

If the dent was smaller the foam has a memory and a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun will help it expand back to normal. You just have to watch that you don't apply a lot of high heat or the surface will start to "popcorn".

The size of that dent requires the steps that NorCalMatCat, Dkumagai and AJ gave you. Really warm water, filler then shape it and tape it.

I actually had not heard of the Microbaloons that AJ mentions and will get myself some. I can always use something to patch and shape my foamy.

Microbaloons work very well as a filler when mixed with epoxy. It cures like plastic foam depending on how much you add to the epoxy.

A word of caution: Microbaloons are tiny glass beads, DO NOT INHALE THEM. Wear a mask as these can be as damaging as carbon fiber dust to your lungs.

I appreciate the warning about the glass beads. I understand how something like that can really hurt your lungs.

My wife now has an acute lung sensitivity issue after inhaling a powder residue left over from a Water/Sodium Saccharin solution. The sodium saccharin powder was very abrasive and caused lesions on her lungs. She was diagnosed by two different medical facilities as having RADS. They were able to help her with massive amount of steroids and pure oxygen. She still gets into a coughing fit triggered by just about anything she smells or breaths in.

All I can say is protect your lungs anytime your are cutting, gluing, burning, grinding, etc, etc.

I trapped my bix on a school roof today,ya ya i know, stop flying in populated places where plane sucking roofs are, to be honest i was flying in some wind i am not quite used to,20km with gusts uo to 35km. Get you giggles on.
E-mailed a freind to see if i can borrow his BIG LADDER. It's not that bad though only a 15-20 foot climb is all.. Only bad thing abou it is the lipo will be toast before i get it back.OH WELL.

That was always my second biggest fear, going down on a roof or in the middle of water :P (I live on a bay, and generally fly over a marsh that is also a sewage treatment plant..., so if I go down over that water I am not getting back, cause I am not getting in that nasty water :P)

Here (at our field) we have to trudge through 2 foot deep swamp, reeds and scarey red belly snakes if we go down over the 'fence' line!
