e-flite 370 outrunner

Has anyone out there tried an e-flite 370 outrunner on the great planes flatouts like the flatana? I'd be keen to hear if you guys think this would be too much power and if so, what other brushless would be OK for the flatana as the RIMFIRE suggested on the box is unavailable in Australia as far as I can tell.
cheers,
JB

My buddy has one on his Redbull....
Flies great outside with a CS 3s 800 15c.

Too much power........bah.......never
(power is never the issue ...just weight)

Go for it... you will love it.

the rimfire is perfect for those flat foamies! the whole line of those are really terrific imho.

The 370 will easily do the job but it is overpowered. If you already have this motor and not the rimfire...use it and prop down. The 370 is a screamer on 3s for even much heavier models

Sucks to dig up a thread this old but I'd rather do that than make a new one. I have an Alpha 370 1360kv motor and I was wondering if it's too much weight for the Flatana.

Specs from NitroPlanes.com:

Model #:
Alpha 370 (63M14)
Kv:
1360Kv
Input Watts:
150W
Resistance:
.10 ohms
Idle Current:
1.00A
Continuous Current:
12A
Max Burst Current:
15A
Cells Ni-Cd/Ni-MH:
6-10
Cells Li-Po:
2-3
Weight:
1.8 oz (50g)
Overall Diameter:
1.1 in (28mm)
Shaft Diameter:
1/8 in (3.175mm)
Overall Length:
1.05 in (27mm)

The whole plane is meant to weigh 9oz or so... so a 50g brushless seems excessive.... but then it came out with a geared 370 brushed which weighs more than 50g (~62g with g/box)... go figure. I'd go with a <40g, 2208.... but your Alpha 370 should be okay.

Wow! A reply from THE doctor, himself! lol. Yeah, that's my dilemma: I already own a 370 so if it works, I'll use it. If I had to buy one just for it then it would be one more suited. I'll give it a try. Thanks a lot.

Also, I'd like to add that if it weren't for the ridiculous prices at my local hobby shop, I'd just buy a brushed ESC from them and use the stock motor.
