UK TV prog: James May's Toy Stories

James May hosted a 1hr programme tonight pn BBC2 where they launched a glider with an ardupilot mega and set a new UK record of 22 miles for distance travelled by a "Toy" unpowered glider.

The programme can be seen on BBC's iPlayer until 7.59pm GMT on Sunday 6th of Jan 2013

Here's the pirate video.

I'd like to see more on the CFD simulations they did for the second version. They didnt give enough attention to that and I suspect they used that info to set up the autopilot, or they combined that with data from the first version. They seemed to get close enough to make the flight.

I wonder how far it actually flew. Excellent program fab part of the world. Lots and lots of RAF based foolery for me just down the road at EGDC

They did admit that they hadn't the time to "test" the autopilot, so I guess as many have said on other forums the PIDs weren't dialled in properly.

A great advertisement for the Ardupilot anyway
