Question
Neu 707

I have the new 707 F5J motor and a CC Phoenix Lite 75A ESC. I know a 50A would suffice, but I had the 75 as a spare and used it. I would like to know the correct settings for this motor.

Also, could incorrect timing and/or switching frequency cause erratic operation?

Thanks!!

Dave

The settings suggestions can be found here: http://www.neumotors.com/Site/FAQs_%26_setup.html

In short use the lowest timing setting , the brake should be set to 100% and PWM usually does not matter much with that motor. I suggest that the low voltage cutoff be set to the lowest possible as well as to set the "cutoff" type to "soft".

Thank you very much, Steve! I will plug in the ESC and put in these settings.

I am using it in the SUSA Osprey. I feel it may be marginal for that plane even at a modest AUW. I really think the other 2 recommended motors listed on the SUSA site would be a better choice. I have another question. If I bought another motor, say an 1107 2Y, would it mate up with the P29 gearbox that came as part of the 707?

Thanks!!

The housings for the 0707/P29 are special made---it is not possible to put the P29 on just a regular 0707 motor.

So the gearbox is not a standard P29? I can see the 707 housing is made to match the gearbox. Hmmm, sounds like another type of direct drive motor. I was hoping I could just buy a 1105 2.5Y or a 1107 2Y and bolt it on. I really didn't want to sink another $300 into a larger system.

Thanks anyway, Steve!

The P29 gear boxes are all the same---the housings for the F5J housings are much different from the regular 0707 motors. You could order a F5J motor without the gear drive and swap the gear head around.

So if I bought an 1105 or1107 motor, would it mate up with the P29 gearbox I already have?

If you bought the motor installed in the F5J motor case it would fit. There is no adapter from a regular 07XX motor to a P29 gear drive.

I'm sorry Steve, I'm still confused. I don't want another Neutron motor, it is too weak for my application. All I want to know is if I can buy one of your 1107 motors and use it with the P29 gearbox that came as part of my 707 F5J unit. In other words, dismount the Neutron motor and housing and then install an 1107 on the P29. If so, would I also need some sort of special housing that adapts the 1107 to the P29?

The P29 gear drive can be used with a 11XX motor as long as you have the adapter plate and get the 11XX motor with the 6mm pinion-shaft. If you have a existing motor you can put the gear drive on motors that have 5mm shafts if you get the thicker adapter plate that allows the longer bolt on pinion gear to be used.

Well Steve, the 707 motor gave up the ghost this evening. Any ideas?? If you want to do a post mortem on it, let me know.

Broken wire or bearings? Send it back and we will see what happened.

Quick follow-up question for Steve. Is it safe to assume you are comfortable that the 707/P29 combo is within its limits pulling 450W for 30 seconds in successive ALES/F5J type runs? (w/ 16x10 prop and 50A esc as suggested in the Soaring USA product description.)
The specs listed for the 2Y 707 on neumotors.com show 300W surge and 150W continuous, but I'm still hoping 450W is OK...
Thanks for any thoughts, Oliver

It is fine for the 30 second bursts of F5J with the 16x10 prop.
