Just thought I'd put this out there for discussion......

Say your building a DS plane with a 2 piece, 2m wing. The planform has been finalised and the only consideration now is how much dihedral should I build into the wing?

To date, I have built 2 DS planes with flat top wings (a small amount of dihedral) and 1 without any dihedral, and I noticed that the planes with dihedral seemed to hold the circuit better without wanting to wander offline.

I've looked at most production models and they all have dihedral.

So I have 2 questions:

1. What is the optimum dihedral for a 2m DS (conventional) plane?

2. (Just out of curiousity) Does the same apply to flying wings?

I can`t give any advice on your questions Waz , but I`ve often wondered if you`d get a better ds flyer if you made one wing slightly different to the other or had more dihedrel on one wing . Naturally you`d have to always circle in the same direction & straight line flying may suffer , but as your knife edge much of the time & flying in a circle I wonder if you could get gains by doing something along these lines .

2 degrees is what I use for my Dynamics. I would go with at least that much. Too much wont hurt any but not enough wont help much at all.
