Frekote comparison

Hey guys. Im curious to know if the frekote bought by the gallon and presumably sprayed in a paint gun is worth while compared to buying the aerosol can.
http://www.compositescanada.com/prod...?idProduct=289
When I get a chance to pick up items I like to buy a lot. aerosol cans seem like a waste to me but I want to be sure the gallon can stuff performs the same.
Does it mess up a spray gun for example? Should I buy a cheap spray gun just for frekote

Thanks

You dont need a spray gun for frekote.
You have to wipe it on with soft cloth let it dry and wipe it off/polish.

I would buy the non-aerosol cans. I had some aerosol cans and the spray tip was more of a splatter paint than a nice fine mist. I emptied the can by hanging it upside down and then used the liquid inside applied with a cloth like Yuri mentions instead. Just be careful of the quantity you buy because it does react with moisture and the shelf life is critical. In the long-run it might be better to buy multiple smaller cans and open as needed than subject a larger quantity to atmospheric moisture.

Just wipe it on and immediately wipe it off. Easy as pie. With the FMS sealer you want to wipe it one, wait until the edges start to evaporate, and then wipe off the excess.

Don't spray or use the aerosol.

Wyowindworks, why does the Frekote immediatly be wipped? In the datasheet, they write that we must wait a few minutes to 20 mn and after wipe off...! I have see one of your video, you're demonstrate that. But with my poor english i don't have understand all..

I have buy a similar products in europe, called TR semi permanent release. Same as the Frekote (sealer, wipe on, waiting few minutes, wipe off)

Amicalement,

Fabrice

If you don't wipe it right off it leaves a milky residue....

I've noticed it more over fms sealer than just on Mylar.

The new mylar acp is carrying really shines with 770nc! Looks like you polished for hours.

Exactly. If you don't wipe the FMS sealer then you will have little dimple/dots all over the mold surface. If you don't wipe the 770-nc release then it will get hazy and have streaks.

Am I missing something? Is there a sealer that goes on before frekote? [FMS?]

Yes. You seal the mold first with the Frekote FMS sealer (3 coats for new molds) and the follow it with the 770-nc release (3 coats for new molds).

oH WOW Thats a game changer for me, My supplier only carries that by the gal.

I gotta source that somewhere else. The last time a bought chemicals out of the USA I almost had a heart attack from HAZMAT fees/exchange rates and shipping costs. OUCH .. Glad I learned this, thanks

Another note: Mylar does not need the fms sealer....

And a quart will last months of use. Don't forget Adam's thread on expiration dates. I bag big wing 4 meter wings and a 66" fuse mold, I always run up on the dates before its empty with a quart size....(about two kits a month)

I was planning on making a new mold and using the frekote for release. Does the sealer just need to be applied to a new mold and then from there on just the frekote? Im totally new to this concept.

Bill, which product has a expiry date?

Thanks

Ouch, Just read Adam`s thread. I think I may just stick with wax and PVA. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1515553

The quantity I have to buy of frekote is bizarre
