Looking for threads on doing glider repairs

I was wondering if folks can direct me by providing links to threads on doing repairs to molded gliders. I've seen some on this forum but I can't seem to find them. If anyone can direct me to the links on how to repairs molded wings I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance,

-Edgar

I want to tackle some repairs myself and was looking for some threads showing some repair techniques for molded wings and fuse repairs that might be out there...

Thanks in advance,

What kind of repair are you looking to do. Theres many resources available on the groups but many are buried within build threads.

Searched using Repair as the keyword and 19 pages showed up.

I thought there was someone in your club who has done this, please there's another down in Sad Diego that does great work, just forgot the names.

Good luck,

Jared

Here's one I did a few years ago. It was pretty simple as long as I kept the cuts accurate.

Edgar,

In all seriousness, if you are going to do composite repairs, get the best epoxy you can find. It makes a HUGE difference in the strength of your repairs.

I really like MGS epoxy. You can get it at Aircraft Spruce in Chino, avoiding the rather expensive Hazmat fee to ship the hardener.

+1
And I prefer the slow hardener, it gives you about 5 hrs of working time along a very low thermal reaction. No odor is another plus for MGS.

Which one? L285 or L335

"The 285 system has slightly higher physicals than the 335 and will also achieve a higher maximum Tg after post curing."

Is the 335 good enough with L285 about $ 40 more per Gallon. Sure with they packaged in Qts. I don't crash that often. :-)

I use the 285 resin with the 285 and 287 hardeners. I can't remember which is fast and which is slow. The neat thing is that you can mix the hardeners to get it to cure at whatever speed you want. The mixed epoxy has a pleasing blue color.

My understanding is that the slower hardeners are even more dependent on heat-curing and therefore will provide slightly inferior results when cured at room temp.

I use 285 with the fast (45min working) hardener. It cures very slowly, slower even than West Systems slow hardener, and allows plenty of time to lay up an entire wing if you want. It's really nice stuff, much better than West Systems. The low viscosity, high clarity, and high strength are fantastic.

That said, I wouldn't go out of my way for MGS just to do repairs. In fact, the lower viscosity and very long cure time might even be a drawback. Just get a can of West Systems fast. It's available at the boat shop by your house.
