I was going to use ESC's that have a Opto isolated throttle. I assume it's ok but thought I'd check with the "higher up's" at Hoverfly Tech before I power up the soldering iron...

I don't see any issue with optical isolation, but the rest of the ESC must be able to respond fast enough to be suitable for quadcopter use.

You will need a separate 5v supply for the receiver. Just get something like a CC BEC, set it for 5v, power it from the flight battery and plug it into the receiver battery port.

Looks like it would work to me, but I haven't tried one myself.

That thing sure is sure way overpriced. It’s one of those very popular Chinese ESC with the price marked way up.
