New Plane: Going to get a P-51 Mustang!

So, I have had the Grea Planes Cub (Parkflyer)...It was the plane I used for those relxing evenings. (It's one of many planes I own) My point is, the plane has been used and abused! I'm taking out it's components and putting it into this: P-51 Mustang!

From what I can see, this plane looks awesome. For 50.00 bucks how can you gow rong with a Built-Up ARF? All I need for this plane is a brushless motor system and ESC and just use one of my Li-Po's In this plane I will also swap out of the cub is the Spektrum Reiever !

I think it's the same one as over at ak-models.

AK-Models

I was looking at the same plane a while back. The only thing I was worried about is, if you crash it, your most likely done. It is beautiful though. I'm going the try the GWS Corsair with a cheap BP outrunner. The slope glider version is only $26. If you crash it, you can always glue them back together.

AK-models, might be cheaper, depending on the shipping costs from Nitro.

Good Luck,
Sympster

Like Sympster says it's the same as AK models. If you do a search there's a ton of reading. I have one and it's a great little warbird. They are acually quite strong and as a foam plane would snap on a rough landing, these will take some punishment. The weak spots are the cowl and the air scoop of which are made of thin flimsy plastic. As for landing gear, it's possible depending on your building skills. Here's one one on ebay.

Interesting...
the nitroplanes price is $49.95
ebay price is $79 + $22 for shipping
AK sells it for $55 + $10 shipping

and it appears to be the "Marie" from Alfa model from hobby lobby for $126.

http://www.hobby-lobby.com/p51_marie.htm

I guess it pays to shop.

Wellington,

Now you have me interested in one again. What power setup do you have in it? I would like to put in one of the BP motors, 18 amp esc, spektrum radio, and a 2000 mah 3s lipo. Can it have room for my suggested battery? Any challenges on the build?

OK, just got done reading all the posts in the ebay p51 thread from back in feb. 2005. I didn't find much else. Do you have any links to other significant threads?

Thanks,
Sympster

Sympster, Sorry I haven't found any links or threads on this plane. They want you to remove the wing to get access to the battery so I did the same as someone else and made a battery hatch in front of thr canopy. My power setup is a little complicated because I used what I had availible at that time and as you can see it's a GWS gearbox which was not really intended to be fitted in there. The motor is a park 370 5400kv brushless and the gear is the ''c'' gear swinging a 9x7 prop. Castle Creations phoenix 10 for the esc and a home made 750mah aaa 10 cell battery.

Pipercub, The plane is wood construction.

The Alfa is not the same plane. Yes it has the Marie markings, but Alfa is made of Foam and about 95% done for you. Ak-models- NitroModels are balsa and are not nearly as complete out of the box, but at half the price are a good deal for a little work.

Get yourself a Laserarts P-51D and never look at a heavy, plain ARF again. The lasercut kit is designed for retracts too.

My plane finally came in from AKM. Well least to say, I'm not happy with what happened, but I will work on the plane.

Starting working on my plane today; Was inserting the push rod when I heard something !Snap!, Here I am thinking to myself, huh? How am I now suppose to run the wire to the flap? Well I ended up opening the skin on the bottom of the plane, had to run the push-rod manually. This means I have to go to the Hobby shop, pick up matching monokote and repair the bottom of the wing. But this allows me to make I guess landing gear.

I'll have pics and info.

Hey guys, I'm really interested in your suggestions and comments.

I'm crazy about WWII and Germany, Nazis etc. I was thinking about doing the German P-51 Aircraft- Wouldn't be much more work then changing the skin to yellow on the bottom half of the wing and the fuse with some cool looking stickers....?
