Build Log
Losi Trail Trekker

There's plenty of micro crawler builds, so here goes mine.

Started off stock then I removed foams and added solder for weight. I removed the bump stops and that's about it for a month.

Ordered a set of 20s from another forum and some MiClaws from China. I finally got them together and on the truck this morning. It looks good, not near as scale anymore...but that's fine with me. Next I'll find a good battery and a scale body.

Props to DANALLY for some prompt business and shipping on the wheels.

Losi Trail Trekker

I've trimmed the body, pulled out the tire foams from the stock Losi tires, and loaded the Miclaws with small, ball shaped lead fishing sinkers. I picked up a 2s 250mAh lipo today and have driven it almost 45 minutes with no sign of slowing. I moved the upper shock mounts to give it a bit of lift and get the axles off of the frame some. This also allows for more articulation.

Full flex with all 4 touching.

This little guy is a blast around the house. The 2s really sped it up and there is still some manageable throttle control.

Minor update: I had a full set of Losi Micro T springs in my spares box that I ordered last year by mistake. They fit over the shock bodies but are too short. So I used the red ones(softest) and stretches them enough that there wouldn't be slack at full extension. Put these up front and they're slightly softer than the originals. It'll run a few MM of droop whereas the originals were stiff.

Ordered a VW Bug body a while back. It should be here this week hopefully...and hopefully it'll fit.

It doesn't fit as well as I had hoped with the Trekker frame. I'll be ordering a MicroRC frame tonight and should be maybe a week out before I get it. It'll work fine with the shorter frame.

But it'll need this height for good axle movement.

I need to fab some links and get my new ESC in to see how to fit everything. This chassis is a lot shorter and smaller.

Losi Trail Trekker

I cobbled together some rear steer last night. I'm running a Chinese 20a ESC, an sr3250 RX, a dx3e TX, and a Chinese metal gear servo. I used the long plastic link to connect the two hubs then heated a 1/2 twist into the bent link and cut off the end of it. Made a hole there and attached it to the servo horn. It work out good, but there's some slop in all of it. So now that I know it works and all fits, I've ordered the proper Losi parts bags to make it match the front steering.

I should have a package with 4 chinese MG servos soon. I'll be putting those in without the servo saver horns and this should really be a beast then. I've got another project in the making with a chinese micro crawler and a VW Samba body. I'll link it here and link here there so that they can be cross references more easily. The vehicles are different as for design, but the micro size and rear steer are the ties.

Losi Trail Trekker

Today I made the two servo connections for the shortened wires. Only 6 wires and what a meticulous PITA it was. But it's rear steer again and will making the pilgrimage to Disney World tomorrow with the family.
