I should have been more clear. My wife was visiting our eldest in NAPA. I was three hours away and felt nada. I may have to go get her and cut short the planned visit. I'm my wife's full time care giver and this was a bit over due, but planned vacation for us both. I am very glade she's fine and the family , too.

Seems quake is a bit worse than originally reported. Could have been REALLY bad.

I saw the news coverage and was very thankful for the fact the worse I have felt was a 4.2. What we have experience is a drop in the bucket be comparison. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Napa!

One of the contestants at the contest I was CD for was from Napa. Needless to say he quickly packed up and headed back home. My prayers go out to the folks of Napa as well. I was standing in the Ghirardelli chocolate shop in down town SF in 1989 for the Loma Prieta quake.

flyerinokc,

I have been thru quite a few smaller quakes, 3 to 4 on the richter scale, and SF was 7.1 (but only 15 seconds long).

From the look of the video's, Napa was jolted pretty hard.

I used to live in San Diego. Felt a few. Dived under my desk a few times. Felt the big one that tumble some of L.A. I was out dry camping and flying on a dry lake bed near 29 Palms. Sure felt that one.

For about a year I traveled every week to San Francisco on a consulting gig. We stayed in the old historical, and very comfortable, Hotel Whitcomb and work next door for the State Insurance Fund. When I first started the Earthquake Emergency Supply locations I had to learn made me a bit nervous as did the Earthquake drills but I never felt a tremor the whole time. The Whitcomb is at 5th and Market so it was close to downtown so site seeing in the evenings was doable It was cool to see all the places mention in Dashiell Hammett's novels!
