I'm not very experienced with what makes or breaks certain flight characteristics, but from what I experienced, the power wasn't as good as the speed with the carbon prop. When attempting slow speed high alpha passes with the carbon prop, it seemed to not want to fly slow nor keep the nose up doing so as opposed to the the 4-site prop which definitely felt it would hang from the prop easier.

The Vapor wasn't designed to be a fast flyer, but having the power to do loops (inside and outside), vertical climbs and the ability to pull out from low to ground "dumb thumb" maneuvers, makes it more enjoyable.

If you want to maintain slow flight and still be able to do tricks, I would rate the props as:

1. 4-site prop
2. Stock Vapor prop
3. BSDMicro carbon prop

If others have experience with these, please chime in.

I got my BNF Night Vapor for $91.99 with free shipping at Red Rocket Hobbies with their 4th of July 8% sale promotion. If you register on http://www.redrockethobbies.com, they will email you e-coupons for various promotions, usually 8% off your purchase from their Web site. These usually come around U.S. holidays, so get in there now for their end of summer/Labor Day coupon that will probably be out in less than two weeks.

Someone mentioned that the cub motor weighed more... but if it slides in AND the gears mesh, sounds good to me. I know that the cub performs well on a small prop.

I'm running the 4-site prop instead of the supplied BSDMicros carbon 5030. The carbon prop definitely sped up the Vapor and I wasn't interested in a hot-rod Vapor.

I haven't noticed any ill affects of the 4-site prop. You will have to hollow out the prop hole a bit to get it on the BSDMicro's prop adapter, then just use the provided rubberbands. With the battery mounted under the RX board, 4-site prop and BSDMicro adapter, the plane is a little nose heavy. It will glide down with a little up elevator.

When outside, I love to crank the throttle and climb vertically then just coast down with no power. The J-3 cub motor seems to give it that "ummppff!" it needs without having to modify the crap out of a perfectly good flyer.

Hope that helps.

Yes it does, as they are the same diameter. The J-3 motor is a little bit heavier, but it's not a significant weight increase.

Do you think the extra weight is worth the extra power?

Is there a dramatic cut in flight time with the more powerful motor?

I get about 15 mins on the 150mah packs. Again, this is the same motor from the J-3 cub which in that plane was providing 15-20 minute flights.

I would just try it for yourself since there isn't any hacking up of the Vapor to get this mod to work. That's the beauty of it.

Do you think the extra power puts more stress on the frame?

Vapor airframe will take a ton of stress. Fast level flight isn't so good though, just not designed for it. Front and rear main wing supports help alot with increased power.
