my friends bought me as a present an rc boat wich has an 7.2v NI-Cd 1800mAh battery.... can i change it with an 7.4v lipoly 8000mAh or less???

do you mean change or charge ?
if you want to use a lipo battery, then you have to make sure the boats ESC is capable of using lipo's, the cell count in the lipo also denotes if the motor can handle it, if you use a 3 cell lipo then chances are you will fry the motor but you can get away with a 2 cell lipo powering a brushed 400 size motor
ref the 8000MAH, this signify's the amps the battery can supply to the motor and you can get longer run times with a large MAH rating wether it be lipo, nicad or nimh batterys
